Came to pickup wines that were ordered by our group. Jonathan met us the the time we agreed upon and helped us with our orders and provided information about everything Cedarville. We love this producer who grows and produces refined wines at reasonable prices. I am a fan of all their reds and their sole white wine a Vigonier is so classic in all aspects. Nose and mouth feel are so fresh and solid. Highly recommended for those who want well made and not over ripe wines. A visit will provide you with a full history of what each wine is and its history. Very special place.

I visit owner / winemakers Jonathan & Susan every year, and their wines never disappoint. Visiting Cedarville is by appointment only, but that's actually a good thing - it means that you'll get undivided attention when you're there. The wines are among the best in this part of the Sierra Foothills, and Jonathan & Susan are exceptionally friendly hosts, which makes for a great tasting experience with them. Their cool wine caves are worth checking out, as is a walk out into their vineyard if you have time. Can't recommend Cedarville highly enough - it's a "must" when visiting wineries in the Fair Play area of El Dorado County.

Tasting here is only by appointment, so we were the only ones at the wine tasting, which is done by the owner, Jonathan. They make some really nice wines here and it was great to get information right from the owner and winemaker. We didn't fell rushed at all, even though we were there during the busiest time of year. Felt like we had made a new friend by the time we left. The wines here are very good and we ended up buying one of the most expensive bottles of wine we have ever purchased. We'll hang on to it for a while and drink it on a special occasion.

East of Plymouth and south of Placerville is the sweet spot for zin production and an expanding repertoire of wonderful Syrah's, Petit Syrah's, blends, and a few wonderful whites that love the not-to-miss terroir of southern El Dorado County (though we stayed in the Amador area over the weekend). A chance connection with the vintner Susan (one half of the creative team) brought us out on a lazy Saturday afternoon at our 2 p.m. appointment (a must-have for this gem), which proved to be the highpoint of our wine tasting and tour experience in California in the last decade. A stunning 15 acres with their own production facility and a wonderful personal tasting event with tours of the cellars, a look at the new French oak barrels that had just arrived, and a couple hours of visiting and running into old friends who were back for their umpteenth visit (thanks guys for never telling me about this place!) left us wanting more and more. The Zin is the one with the backbone and wonderful fruit and earthy tastes. But the Rules of Fair Play was the standout of the afternoon. We are now rationing the bottles we purchased to upcoming dinners this fall. And have no doubt that we will be joining so many others that mount annual return pilgrimages but hold the secret close to their palates. With only several hundred cases a year in production, this is a real gem. It doesn't hurt that the top regional and national wine publications all single them out for accolades. But it will be a long and cold winter day that you will get this sort of reception, tasting, and peek inside the world of California wine making on a standard trip to the "other" wine regions to the west. Great hotels, bakeries, restaurants, and even a few nice tourist diversions in the area make this a great escape from Sac and the Bay Area. Activities include walking and checking out the surrounding vistas.

Jonathan provided us with the most amazing wine experience ever. By appointment only, he opened his winery and interrupted his life for a few minutes for us. We bought several bottles of their superb wines. Definitely the best in the area. Their zins were never overpowering but had a strong character and will be saved for special occasions. They also had a wide variety of other varieties, which were incredible. Very reasonable prices on all types. This will definitely be our first stop when we visit next.
