In the ‘Gamle Fredrikstad’ it feels like time has never passed by. Vintage markets, wooden houses and, in our case, even a historical reconstruction of a battle, including cannon shots! It’s worth it for a stroll.

There's a free ferry to take you across to the fortified town from the car park - it's very frequent too. The fortified town itself is quite nice for a stroll. Essentially what you find is a small town full of slightly disappointed groups of...More

A delightful old walled town with some lovely walks. Quaint old buildings line the cobblestone streets and there are lots of cafes and craft shops. A bit pricey - but we did run to a couple of fridge magnets! Easy to get to...there's a free...More

The old town makes for a relaxing trip back in time. It is a beautiful place a short walk and ferry from the city sentre. You will go for the experience, cute cafes and maybe the lively and inviting Saturday marked.

Not knowing what to expect we were delighted by the old town. It seems to have been preserved in time with quaint cobbled greets, nice cafe/ restaurants and very few cars to disrupt the charm of the place.

The ferry has several terminals in different locations. There is one ferry that goes every five minutes and another that goes to more places every half an hour. At least that was how it was when I went in March.
