A bit expensive with small exhibiton area. Only one movie is 3D. For more info about Mt Cook, better go to the DOC visitors centre without admission fee.

This is a no-brainer if you are in the area. This is a very fitting tribute to man who is synonymous with mountaineering. Must do.

I paid the entry fees ($20 per person) because I read the on line promotion of this place and I wanted to learn more about Sir Edmund Hillary. The centre is pitifully small and not well laid out. Many of the artefacts on display have...More

For everyone who is planning their daytrips from day to day without checking everything in advance : There is no telescope, the movies are average, you won't see any stars out of the museum. Basically you're getting to know the guy who's face is seen...More

My friends and I booked the Stargazing Tour in advance because we have heard positive reviews about it. We specifically arranged for our trip to Mount Cook on a new moon night so that we can have darker skies, in hope to see more stars....More

This review is of the stargazing only, not the entire center. We made advance reservations for the stargazing. We stayed in Queenstown instead of Mt. Cook and drove up early that day to do some hiking beforehand. Unfortunately the weather was very bad. We were...More

To better understand the entire Sr. Hillary experience from Mt. Cook to Everest, visit the center and watch both movies. A fantastic education and adventure to be here.

Interesting exhibition on the life of Sir Edmund Hillary, I only knew him as the first to summit Mt Everest but learned far more about the man and the life he led. Would recommend as a stop on any tour of South Island. The facilities...More

Spent a hour looking through the various exhibits. Well put together. The exhibition highlights the history of his climbing with large a variety of items and photographs. Well worth a look especially if the weather isn't cooperating.

The documentaries were interesting but a lot of the other information presented was availsble (for free) at the national park visitor centre. Only worth the money if you have time to watch the documentaries. The one showing Ed Hillarys life and achievements was interesting.

It's not something you should book until you get there due to weather. We always book the stargazing tour once we have arrived in the village and know what the weather is going to be like as it's no use booking that... More

We were there 2 weeks ago and it wasn't very crowded. If you are interested in the nighttime Sky tour, book it in advance if possible since that was filled up when we got there. Enjoy the walks, especially the one to... More
