This is one of the natural landmarks of the Carpathians, beautiful lake in a middle of the deep Carpathian forest. You can enjoy virgin wild landscapes and have a walk around the lake, which takes around 20 minutes.

After read all the rewievs, I was so interested to see this lake, but my fantasy was a little bit to colorful.
It's a simple small lake, not really cozy to be in that atmosphere. Lowd music of the Coffees, really crowded.
Maybe it's better to choose to sit at the river near by, but for one time 30 minutes visit (wihout going 2 km by foto) Synevir is also ok.

It was my first trip to the Carpathian Mountains. The main purpose of my trip was Synevir Lake. I dreamed of seeing the largest mountain lake in Ukraine since my school years. The lake is located in the village of Synevirska Polyana, Zakarpattya Region.
The entrance to the lake and area around it closed for vehicles, so buses and cars arrives to the nearest cafes, and then you should walk 2 km on the mountain slop to the lake up. That`s why you need comfortable shoes. The road to the lake is winding and sometimes not easy, but nature there magnificent. There are huge spruces, which called «smereki», and many deciduous trees on both sides. Usually in the beginning of October the trees don`t dropp-off all the foliage so there are huge quantity of leaf`s shades from green to fiery red. It is amazing picture! And I was over the moon when I saw Synevir Lake. It has a mirror-like crystal clear water surface among forest, with a small island in the middle. It takes from 40 to 60 minutes to go around the whole lake, but it is a must if you want to see all unique and incredible landscapes around the lake.
Near the lake there are many cafes and souvenir shops. In these cafes, which are called "kolyby", you can try such famous Transcarpathian dishes as "bograch" (similar to ukrainian borsch but sharper and fatter) and "banosh" (corn porridge cooked in cream with mushrooms) and other local dishes common in this region. And of course, there you can taste a lot of different drinks such as uzvar, berry juice, other beverages and stronger drinks.
I have to admit that Synevir Lake is one of nature wonders of Ukraine that`s why it is worth seeing, for sure!

It looks like any lake I have seen before. Stinky toilets and small gift shop at the decking area. Nice walk around the lake. Some slippy muddy areas when wet. Peaceful with nature. But nothing special in my view.

Our guide Yuri had tales to tell about various aspects of the lake from the love story associated with the wooden poles to why you cannot swim in the lake, the latter tied into the review title [actually it is against park regulations]. With tales, it takes an hour to stroll around the largest lake in the Carpathian Mountains, situated at 989m above sea level. It can be cool on a blustery day. Dense pine forests surround the lake. Various types of honey are for sale in a rainbow of colours. It is one of Ukraine's seven nature highlights.

The road was terrible. 4,5 hours from LVIV by car!
You can't see nothing special around the lake. We were in November. It was snowy. The path was very slippery. Nobody cares about it. And few tourists have fallen during a walk.
It is difficult to pay by Visa/Master for souvenirs or in a cafeonly cash.

A must go when visiting the Ukrainian Carpates. We went there while staying in Izki. Maybe the lake is even more beautiful when the water level is a bit higher. When walking around the lake there is a lot of opportunity to buy local (dried) mushrooms and local jams.
