I rate great but I don't think I have the right to rate ~ very embarrassed . I gave up after 3 minutes on the main road after the entrance .... Yes I hiked 1h15min ( including taking pictures time) up there and enjoyed the amazing unforgettable view and .... At the entrance the ticket office lady handed me a... More

When in Kamari, it is easy to take a look at ancient Thera. This town was founded in the 9th c BC by Spartan colonists and was one of only two Spartan colonies ever built, other being Tarent in Italy. It is possible to reach site by bus from the bus station in Kamari, by car or to take a... More

Accessible by foot, donkeys or a private cab, Ancient Thera is not an easy hike for those not used to it. The sun can seem especially unforgiving if you're on this trail mid-day. Beautiful views with a serene blue sky backdrop - not a must-visit.

Ancient There is located atop a mountain in Kamari town. You can catch a bus to Kamari from Fira town and begin your trek up. There are 2 ways up - one which is steep and rough and the other long and winding. While both roads offer breathtaking views of the town and ocean below, the latter is much easier... More

My partner and I went here while in Santorini. We opted to rent a car on this island, since it was a bit longer than the others we stayed at. We took our car up to the mountain to get to Ancient Thera. Personally be careful as most of the road way up is for one car. If another is... More

Unless you are pretty fit I recommend you catch the bus or hire a car or quad bike because the road up is very steep and in the sun exhausting. And note that the prices for all the ancient sites have had significant price hikes this year. Still good value, but just be aware some of the advertising literature is... More

It is quite high but if you hire a car or squad-bike you can park there and walk just a bit. Anyway what you choose is worthy because from the top is amazing view to everywhere. During the hot day can be difficult, take a lot of water, there is just couple of places to stay in shadow.

In the off season, it took us half an hour to find someone we could hire to drive us to the top. Most places are closed. The site closes at 2pm so you need to be there early enough. We're in our 60s but very fit for walking and found that the climb at the site itself starts out with... More
