Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived for a stopover in Amantea with no expectations for anything of interest. It was disregarded by the slightly ageing Lonely Planet guide in our possession. An after lunch stroll into the old town turned out to be a delightful tour. There are several churches open. In one was a long diorama of the resurrection of Jesus, in another a model of the old town of days gone by. Numerous little alleys and flights of steps led us eventually to the climb up towards the old castle visible on its rock. The path goes as far as the ruined church of St. Francis of Assisi where spectacular views may be found. A more tenuous scramble led to the castle ruins. As yet unrestored and with danger signs in place. We got drenched by a thunderstorm on our return but had a fascinating afternoon.

Wear comfortable shoes and walk from the centre to the top via the staircase, you wont be dissappointed. Finish with a cold beer & fresh panino at the local bar! Stop at the Church to admire the views beneath the archway. Dont forget to check out the Grottos at the base of the City, hidden away in a local park!

Probably one of the most beautiful place in Amantea.
If you want to admire ancient palaces, walk narrow and picturesque streets, see amazing sunset from the top of the city... you should go there.
There are 2 good ice cream shops, a pub, 2 restaurants ( one of them is even a pizzeria - Tipiko - where you can taste really delicious home-made food) and a souvenir shop.
You can even go there for a cultural tour, visiting ancient churches and the old castle.
Relaxing place to spend a night.

the ruins and old town are worth a visit, as well as the castle! It's all above the new amantea, with a stunning (especially at night) view!

Take the time to leave the shopping and spend a few hours in the upper town, which is the historic centre of Amantea. Have a gelato at Sicoli, visit the church of San Bernardino da Siena, and enjoy the wonderful views offered by the strategic vantage point.

Very quiet and tranquil, just right for a beer to watch the sun go down. Quite often there is a wedding, wonderful for people watching!

Love the old cobbled streets with views over the new town below to the sea. There are a couple of old churches worth a visit and the castle at the top. Well worth a visit and Sicoli bar for ice cream a treat.
