I have just returned from Zhapo Tourist Area. I was there with my family: wife and two children. We stayed two nights in Yangjiang Sunrise Hotel (I already wrote this hotel review). Our purpose of visiting Zhapo was to enjoy the sea and the beach. How naive we were! The beach is nice and big, but... Along the beach just couple of meters from the sea there is a safety rope to prevent people from even to touch the sea. And there are dozens of life guards watching that nobody cross the line. We were puzzled, where people can swim? Then we saw that the beach is divided by fence on two halfs. And all people in swimsuites go to another half. We followed. Another surprise - entrance is not free, 40 RNB per person. We wanted to swim, we paid the money and entered in. Inside was a small aquapark. As we wanted to swim in the open sea, we passed by pools. One more surprise - even sea front is one kilometer long, people can go to the sea only in two designated areas, each is one hundred meters long and 20 meters wide! And thousands of people!!! Only bodies, no water. Between those two areas was same nice beach, but it was not allowed to go deeper than 30 cm! If somebody tried to go deeper, immediately life guards start whistling and waving red flags. It was funny to see people who rented rubber boats near the entrance to aquapark - unable to find free space in designated areas they walked here and there along the sea drugging the boats. Periodically some chinese people start argueing with life guards, preventing them to sit in the sea and children shoot them with water guns. But, in general, looked like chinese people see nothing strange in such situation. We were very frustrated - spent time and money to come to this beach and been unable to enter the sea. That day we did not swim. And another - if somebody want to eat, he has to leave aqua park and, then, to buy a new ticket. All my family was very sad, we had to stay one more day in Zhapo, but what we will do? Fortunately, just ten minutes drive from Dajiao Bay there is Silver Beach - very-very long, 10km, undeveloped sandy beach. And no life guards, almost no people - for several hundred meters to each side nobody. We found one roomy cave with sandy floor near the entrance of small river to the sea and hide there from the sun, sometimes going to swim. Nice and clean place. Many different crabs ran all around. This place I can reccommend if you look for sun and beach. But chinese start to develop this area and, maybe in 2-3 years this beach will be a big copy of Dajiao Bay :((( Dajiao Bay is a very bad place for sea lovers, if not Silver Beach our weekend would be fully destroyed.
