Fun experience for families with the option of sitting inside or outside. The volunteers were really friendly and entertained the kids by pointing out interesting items hiding along the railway line. Good value for money. Lovely cafe with home baking in the restored Waikino Station...More

A huge thanks to the volunteers on duty who allowed our daughter to ride up front with the driver. She was chuffed to bits and the driver was so lovely with her, even letting her honk the horn on the return trip. Lovely scenic trip...More

Thi railway project is run by volunteers and it is definitely worth doing the trip. The train ride is an absolut slwo down experience - best to start into holiday from a stressful work! :-)

Really good value trip on the diesel hauled train. Friendly staff (mainly volunteers) preserving a piece of NZ history. If you have a bike for the bike trail better still.

Very friendly staff who are keen to share their passion for trains and history of the Rail way. A special thing to do with great walks and cafes in the gorge.

Absolutely the trail begins at waihi station from Waikino it begins over the river. A 5 min walk away. You can take bikes on the train.
