- jay17161Ahmedabad, India332 contributionsBest place to enjoy Ocean view and morning walks.Best place to stay and enjoy the sea in Pondicherry. I stayed at the Promenade hotel for 5 days . It's the best hotel on the rock beach of pondycherry Promenade. I enjoyed my morning walk daily. A lot of people come here for the morning walk.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 September 2023
- Gana59 contributionsBest place for a long walkIt is best place to have a long walk with your family. It was really good for us to walk for a long time and feel little relaxed with the sea view. Little difficult to park the car, as we have to park it somewhere little away and walk from there to reach this placeVisited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 8 October 2023
- Raman GNoida, India534 contributionsExcellent Cannot miss coming hereWhen in Pondicherry cannot miss coming here. A vehicle free zone. About 2 km long. Very nice for a sea side walk. No hawkers allowed . So quite clean. Did not visit, but there is a tourist department cafe with quite an elaborate menu.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 December 2023
- Film GNew England1,051 contributionsNo Cars, Nice Views, Little RetailIt's a road that runs along the waterfront. There are a few parks and statues along the way, but few cafes and restaurants -- a disappointment given the setting. Walk along for 15 minutes and you're done. Quiet, compared to the city.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 March 2024

Walking along Pondicherry’s seafront should be done twice - once in the day and once after dark. It has the sea on one side and French Colonial buildings on the land-side. The beach is covered in rocks and swimming is prohibited. Even paddling no further than your ankles will elicit a whistle blast from the local policeman. It is lovely though. From 18:30 the road is closed to all traffic, so an evening stroll in a gentle cooling breeze is what all the Pondicherry locals so. It’s fun to do the same and watch local life. We did just as a full moon rose above the Bay of Bengal - amazing.

• Pondicherry is a good place to visit one time.
• Two day's trip is enough for pondicherry.
• I stayed in a seaside guesthouse which was really a good place to stay in front of beach
• I borrowed scooty for two days 300/- per day.(The best men I met in Pondicherry)
• Atmosphere was a bit humid during this month (September) so I would suggest to visit in any cold month.
• Do not forget to carry sunscream, too much tanning
• Marine beach , Eden beach and Rock beach were the good one's.
• I am a vegetarian and eat only at veg restaurant's. So if this is not a problem with you, you should definitely explore cafe's.

In itself it is not that special, but whenever we went there, we found ourselves chatting with people, locals and visitors from other parts of India mostly. There was a lively sense of spontaneity and inclusion and we found ourselves drawn into others' events - like being given birthday cake by a celebrating family. When we followed the sound of drums there was a group performing a religious rite, complete with what looked like 'possession', on the beach; it's that sort of place - expect the unexpected.

The govt has made a decent attempt by keeping the promenade clean, arranging for facilities, and restricting vehicular movement. I wish people had more sense to keep the place clean, the sandy part was full of plastic spoons and other trash, even though there were plenty of trash bins provided. Rocky part of the stretch, although beautiful had a lot of trash as well. Stray dogs litter the steet in the morning, u have to watch ur step, but streets do get cleaned I think later in the day.

It's an extension of rock beach. Promenade and Rock Beach are connected. During any major festival in the city all the festivities take place here. Lots of music and activities, performances and lights, it's something to admire.

It did not feel like India. The cleanliness … unbelievable.
Puducherry administration deserves full marks for the upkeep and the discipline instilled among vendors and visitors alike.
It was such a big change to walk without being pushed or brushed.
I just hope that this is not a short lived dream.

This place is the highlight of Pondicherry. One can't but miss this place while in Pondicherry. It is a great place to enjoy the Rock beach, take a midnight stroll, watch the sunrise or just people watch. Some good restaurants too are located here.

Lovely calm place to visit with friends & family. They have maintained and kept it clean though its a bit dirty on beach with garbage & bottles ☹️ its on all of us to keep it clean as whole playing with my kid digging sand i have received a lot of plastic. A lot of liquor bottles at the edge. But view of skies and sea was calming 😊🙌🏻

We had couple of drinks and starters at Promenade around evening time. Anyother time it would be difficult to get a place there.
The place overlooks the beach and thats the best part of this place. One drawback is that few tables are very close to street which attract onlookers.

Nice modern promenade to walk alongside the Rock Beach, well lit at night and busy with locals. Plenty of local life to see all friendly and approachable.
If you are Tall blonde and fair skinned prepare for being approached by locals for a selfie, and add another half hour to your time as they all want one!

It’s the walk away or pavement by the sea shore — called promenade in PONDICHERY—
Written 2 May 2019
If I departs from Chennai early morning for Pondichery then can I travel auroville, arabindra ashram & promenade beach???? I have train for Madurai from Villupuram junction (38 kms from pondichery) at 23:30 on the same day. So I have to boad the train after travelling pondichery. Whether is it possible?

Hi...You can visit pondy and do the site seeing on the same day but if you want to spend more time on each visiting point then you won't be covering all the spots. Plan accordingly.

If you want a beach experience , paradise beach. If you want to enjoy the sea from the banks promenade. Promenade has better food options - I would love to sit on the beach during evening.

I'm thinking of visiting pondicherry with my friend on June. We are on tight budget can anyone suggest cheap lodges
Written 5 April 2017
June would be very humid and probably rainy. There are many budget accommodations / home stays available, as can be searched on Tripadvisor also. Early booking will help you get good price. It would be a good idea to try and book at least a day at Auroville.

I along with my wife am planning a trip to Pondicherry during January-February 2017 and like to stay for a couple of days in any guest house in seaside promenade, preferably belong to Aurobindo Society. After having a glance on Trip Adviser reviews, I very much like to stay there and wish to know about the location and accommodation. Regards. Tapas Barman

I haven't stayed there. Just been to the bar and restaurant. It's sea facing. Stay maybe expensive. You may want to check the rates.
