Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had the best vacation ever in Elvar and Fjólas Guesthaus.
Wonderful horses, fantastic ridingtours, beautiful landskabes and the best company.

We came there in the middle of winter, on a public holiday nonetheless, in horrible weather and they kindly opened the place up for us. Exceptional hospitality! All facilities were very good, everything our little family needed, comfortable beds, spacious rooms, very clean and the hot tub looked very cozy. Excellent location. We definitely recommend and will visit again ourselves. Hjartans þakkir fyrir okkur!

A wonderful place to visit. Stayed there with my family in a beautiful guesthouse, and had a great horseride with Elvar and Fjóla. Thank you for a warm welcome. We will definitely be back!

We were disappointed that the forecasted nice weather turned into light rain when the ride was about to start. The very professional host gave a private tour in fantastic scenic surroundings, with a great horse capable of a smooth ”tölt”. So who cares about little rain! The price was also right, and as a special treat my wife got to hold a newborn lamb in her lap.

We kind of stumbled into this place while driving the ring road. We wanted to see some Icelandic horses up close, so we pulled in. The family that runs the farm were super nice and accommodating and worked us into their schedule for a ride without prebooking. Highly recommend.

Visited Skörðugil this weekend with the family and it was an outstanding trip. We went on a horse riding tour with Fjola and Elvar to Glaumbær. Such beautiful riding paths and the hosts were so lovely. We also stayed at their guesthouse which is one of a kind. Sitting in the hot tub watching the Northern Lights was a fantastic end to a fantastic trip!

This was the first time for our family (3 adults, 2 teens) to go riding. The farm is charming and we were pleased to see that it was not a crowded tourist destination, but they still understood how to deal with beginners. They were quite efficient at getting us set up and with minimal instruction we were off. The surrounding land is beautiful and there are plenty of places to ride through fields, up and down hills and across streams. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Maybe not for those who come unprepared or have high expectations for being waited on. But for those willing to have an adventure it's an ideal place. We were somewhat mixed as a group in terms of how fast/slow we wanted to go and the staff were very sure to inquire and go at speeds that made us comfortable. We went for 2 hours and that felt about right for the group--some said too short , some said an hour might have been enough. The weather was not great--cloudy skies and a very light rain, but that didn't really bother us as we all had plenty of layers, gloves, etc. Out of so many horse riding options in Iceland, we chose this one, in part, for its location as it was on the road for us from Akureyri to Snaefellsnes, but we also liked its rustic feel.
