My husband and I visited whilst on holiday in Crete. Having read the previous reviews we went prepared with lots of bread to entice out the terrapins ... and were successful! I think this made the experience as if we hadn’t then we probably would...More
We visited as 2 couples in September. The lake is beautiful & is great for a swim and a ride on a car pedalo. The pedaloes cost £12 for 4 people for 1 hour. There are a few tavernas around the lake. There is no...More
Great place to visit, you can walk from Georgepolous to the lake or take train or taxi. You can pattle boats on the lake and plenty of food and drinks are available at the lake. The lake and mountain is natural, a must see
About 10 minutes drive from Georgioupolis it’s well signed Lake Kournas on the way.
Turning right at the second entrance in you will drive down the road to several large stone dirt parking areas.
Walking down to the lake passed several pottery shop outlets then...More
You don’t need long here if it’s just a quick swim, be warned this is fresh water - so it’s going to be cold a couple of feet down.

Firstly i would go in at the second entrance as this is where most of the shops and restaurants are.
There are loads of free parking places and just a short walk down the hill to the lake. The view is simply spectacular. The lake...More

We found it best early morning or later in the afternoon as it's a bit cooler then and there isn't very much shade there. If you are going to hire a boat make sure you take a hat and sunscreen as the lake itself is a real sun trap. Tavernas do have shade but you can only stay there so long. It very stony so wear shoes and watch out for the Geese! They were sleeping as we walked by, thank goodness.
