The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS) has given us the following commendation: The world's largest, most successful Arctic whale watching operation is Hvalsafari AS in Andenes. Why Whalesafari from Andenes? We have a natural advantage in Andenes since the edge of the continental shelf is closer to land than anywhere else along the coast of Norway. In the bay that constitutes this part of the shelf, a stable stock of sperm whales feeds and thus forms the basis of whale watching tours in the region of Vesteralen. It is only a one hour voyage from Andenes to the whale feeding grounds. A normal trip lasts about 2 to 4 hours (the duration depend on the distance where the whales are that day and how long it takes to find the first one). The product educational activities form the nucleus of whale safari tours in Andenes. Right from the start, our whale safaris have involved research, learning and adventure joined together in one single, integrated unit. The idea has attracted considerable attention both in Andenes and abroad. Guarantee - The great sperm whales are found in a specially nutrient-rich area northwest of Andenes. There are no other places in Norway where the edge of the continental shelf lies so close to the shore as it does near Andenes. Experience shows that whales are spotted during 99 percent of the safaris. Our guarantee: we´ll give you a free new trip if the boat does not find any cetacean the first time, or your money back (minus admin expenses). Scientists and Guides: the guides at the Whale Centre and on board our vessels are scientists and students from many different countries. In such a way, every excursion feels like a research project.

Looking for whales in open seas is always a gamble. The weather can be very rough; it is often quite cold out there, there can be heavy rains, massive waves and thick fog - and you can be out there for anywhere from 2 to 5 long hours. So while the weather is generally acceptable, be prepared for a tough... More

If you are entitled for a refund (i.e. if safari is cancelled due to weather), the company will only pay you back if you chase them!!!! They already tell you at the reception: "Should be paid back in 1 week, but if not just call or mail us....". Still after 1 month they have not refunded us (when I sent... More

Thanks for taking the time to write something. It is very sad to read your review. As of today we have refunded everybody when the trip was canceled. In same rare occasions the money does not go back to your card because of IT-technicalities, and we struggle a little bit, but I can assure that we do not take advantage... More

We were so looking forward to this safari. Unfortunately when we arrived they told us the weather was too bad to go out on the sea. So we stayed for the guided tour of the museum, and that was great! We learned so much in about one hour about whales and the sea around Andenes. Even our 2,5 years old... More

Hi Sivlia and thanks a lot for taking the time to write this review. It looks like you planned your trip to Andenes very well since you have more than one day available. This is very important as the weather here changes so quickly that it is better to rely on more than one day. We are very happy to... More

We were a little worried about this trip after readings of trips being cancelled due to bad weather however our trip ran and we had the most beautiful day! The museum tour was very informative and a must!! But the real treat is the trip itself! The sea can be choppy and the air chilly so wrap up warm and... More

if you're interested in not just seeing whales but also in learning about them and in supporting the Research and protection of whales, this is the place where you want to be. The tour will be preceded by a guided tour through the whale museum. This was very interesting and I learned some new and interesting stuff about whales. The... More

We travelled up to Andenes specifically to go whale watching with this company - it was a fantastic experience! We were shown around their whale museum by very knowledgable and passionate experts, who also came with us on boat. They spoke most languages. There was great care to ensure conditions were suitable for us to go out, the wind not... More

Hi and thanks a lot for your comments. The skipper is always very careful about the weather, and since it can change very quickly here, and one hour can make a big difference. Killer whales are an extra bonus in the summer and are very enjoyable to watch, photograph and film. I talked to the guides after your trip and... More

They will ask you to go to the museum, and yes - go and listen! maybe museum is to bog word for what they have, but it is very interesting and worth it before the trip. Read the information on their site before playing the trip, as you need to know that the trip could be cancel our to weather... More

Trip (August '16) was great, staff was good, boat did well, museum tour was interesting. We were limited to 3 "observations". But these were well announced and the board was manouvred close by. The only (perhaps) critical point was that we very quickly found the first whale (calle Glen) and then kept around that spot to see him come up... More

A great trip with sightings of whales guaranteed. We booked a couple of days in advance (small deposit required) and the trip started with a guided tour around the small museum. At the time of booking we were a bit skeptical about this but it turned out to be really good where we learned a lot about the surrounding area... More

In the summer, you can only see sperm whales up in northern Norway. But it is an amazing trip. The ONLY reason I gave them a rank of four and not a five, is because to start, they force everyone downstairs inside to sit and listen to safety instructions. And you have to hear it in all the languages of... More
