After a year with almost no opportunities to travel, I completely enjoyed receiving my first food box experience from Abruzzo in December. The mix of local products was wonderful and gave us a chance to try some things that we hadn’t had a chance to try before on our trips to Italy. Everything was absolutely delicious from the pasta and truffle pesto to the wonderful olive oil, passata and acacia honey. Everything came perfectly packed and I really appreciated the time that Marino put into creating a presentation explaining about everything we received and the local producers who made them. “Meeting” the people who created each item really provided a unique personal touch. To top everything off, we also received a beautiful print of a painting created by a local artist. I would definitely recommend the food boxes!

Marino’s Bee Keeping Workshop Experience was very concise and informative. I’ve done previous workshops with him and he’s very articulate and knowledgeable in all of the subjects he covers. He’s also is really personable with an open and friendly approach and encourages questions, which makes it even more enjoyable during his sessions. I’d definitely recommend his online and in-person experiences to anyone interested or curious about Italian and/or Abruzzese food and culture.

I can’t begin to express how amazing our experience with Marino and Experience BellaVita was! It started with a video call where Marino listened to the long list of things that my husband and I hoped to do while in Abruzzo. He took these ideas and put together an amazing itinerary, not just of what his company could offer, but also what we could do and see in our ‘off’ time, hotel recommendations, AND all of the gluten/dairy free restaurants in the area for me! Our first tour day was spent with Marino and his amazing family. We went on a truffle hunt, learned about truffle growing and the truffle industry, and then sat down (in his Uncle’s home!) to a seven course truffle meal, created by Marino’s cousin. Marino and two of his cousins joined us for the meal and there was a lot of laughter and great conversation. It really couldn’t get more authentic! We even got to try Marino’s home made wine! Over the next few days we toured beautiful old towns, walked through ancient ruins of towers and forts, and learned of the 3000 year history of the Transumanza and how sheep have shaped the area. We tried the world’s first sheep milk parmesan, were treated to delicious meals of local foods and wines, and even toured a few areas not usually seen by tourists since Marino grew up in the area and has connections. Marino and his crew went well above and beyond what was expected or even hoped for. I couldn’t recommend them more and will definitely book with them again in the future!

WOW! We just returned from the experience of a lifetime and ‘living like a local’ in Abruzzo with Marino and Experience Bella Vita. His complete detailed planning and tailor-designed trip of what we were interested in experiencing exceeded every expectation! From truffle hunting, making fresh pasta with his family and Nonna to cheese making, visiting a local winery and, my favorite, enjoying fresh seafood in an authentic Trabocchi!
We found the Abruzzesi very warm and welcoming even if their understanding of English was limited. Every single encounter with these wonderful people was heart-warming. The passion and love of their craft and the pride they exhibited was only surpassed by the love of their family. Ensuring the family was cared for was paramount. It wasn’t about material possessions or money. It was pure love of family, providing for family and making sure we felt we were part of the family. The meals they prepared for us were amazing.

I had the absolute PLEASURE of spending a week with Marino Cardelli as our tour guide with Experience BellaVita and five of my friends/travel partners. There were four of us with grandparents from the Abruzzo Region of Italy and decided to "find out roots" in Abruzzo. Marino provided a tour of many towns in Abruzzo, we experienced the food, wine, history, people, culture and Marino's love and passion of his homeland! We were fascinated with his knowledge, friendliness, articulate use of the English language( we are U.S. citizens. Marino arranged and carefully planned our tour, took us to our grandparents place of birth, saw their birth records, our ancestral roots! Marino became our friend, we were picked up each morning at our B&B in Sulmona, Abruzzo, Italy. We walked the Gran Sasso Mountain Range in Majella National Park, ate lunch in a castle, truffle hunting, five course meal in a restaurant on the Adriatic Coast. Every day was a new and exciting adventure created and orchestrated by Marino! With a group of 56(!) friends we travelled to Teramo. Thanks to Marino and his friends/family we had an unforgettable experience. We had been planning this trip for over a year, and Marino helped us with everything. He was really flexible and listened carefully to our wishes to make the trip a joyful experience for everyone. Everything was perfectly organised and everything, even with such a big group, went very smoothly. In addition to this, the enthousiasm of Marino is infectious. He is able to tell all about Abruzzo with so much passion, which really adds a lot to the experience. He brought us to places and people that we would not have been able to find ourselves, and I have enjoyed every second of it. He made all of us feel as part of his family, and I think you need to be a special kind of person to make people feel this way. If you ever want to go to this beautiful region, with incredible nature, amazing food and wines, and even more amazing people, I would really recommend asking Marino to be your guide.

While planning our recent trip to Italy my wife and I wanted to schedule a personal day tour of the town and area were my grandfather was born near L'Aquila in Abruzzo. We were thinking of a walk through the town, a tour of nearby cultural and archeological sites, a meal at a local restaurant all the while being instructed in the local history, culture, and traditions. Marino delivered in spades on the tour he designed and gave for us. First, Marino is friendly and open and immediately made us feel comfortable. His method of starting the planning process with an on-line conversation is a great idea. Second, the research he did specifically for our tour resulted in an experience beyond our imagination. Third, he kept the tour, which was a very full day, going at a pace that ensured that we experienced everything without ever being rushed. In addition to his personal knowledge, Marino acquired the help of a local historian as well as a lead archeologist from Rome to give us a feel for the history of my grandfather's home town. As it turned out, the historian and I are actually related! We had never imagined that the day would be so successful.

We are truly grateful that you chose Experience BellaVita for your heritage tour in Abruzzo. It was a privilege to guide you through the Prata D'ansidonia town near L'Aquila where your grandfather was born and explore your family's roots.
Before your heritage tour, I dedicated time to gather research and information, and on the day of your tour, we had the pleasure of meeting Antonio, the local historian in Prata d'Ansidonia. Our visit to his home led to an incredible revelation. Antonio's lifelong dedication to building a family tree allowed us to explore his extensive database. After a few initial challenges, the discovery was nothing short of astonishing - you are, in fact, relatives...a moment of immense joy and disbelief. Thanks to Antonio's decades of research, we were able to locate and even visit the historic house where your family lived, which happened to be one of the grandest houses within the walls of the Castle of d'Ansidonia. Although it was under restoration and closed to the public, Antonio's connections enabled us to step inside, providing a glimpse into your family's ancestral home and the old church where your ancestors were baptized.
Additionally, we had the privilege of touring the ancient Roman ruins of Peltuinum with the archaeologist, which added to the historical richness of your journey.
We're thrilled that your tour exceeded your expectations, and your kind words mean a great deal to us. The unexpected connections and discoveries you made during this journey are a testament to the depth of heritage and history that Abruzzo holds.

We contacted Marino to set up a legacy tour of the towns of my grandparents: Introdacqua and Castel di Sangro. We didn't just chat, he set up a Zoom meeting so that he could know us. He put together a magical trip for 11 people. He was the translator, but he had locals tell us about the towns. He handled transportation from our arrival in Rome to final departure.
We didn't just see Introdacqua, we met the museum curator and traded stories about my family and things that they had in the museum. (My Aunt Rose was on the cover of one of the books.) We went into a small music museum and heard students practicing "God Bless America". (I think that it was a coincidence, but who knows?) We went to the mother church which was opened just for us. We met the parish priest!! We walked through the cemetery and went up to the medieval tower. (We ate cherries from the trees around the tower.)
We didn't just see Castel di Sangro, we stopped at the house where my grandmother was born in 1898. We walked to the upper part of the city. We were invited inside the mother church as locals described the significance of the various alters. The church was dated "1706" but it was the third church built on that site. The first two were destroyed by earthquakes. We went to a local museum and discussed the history of the city from the Samnites to World War II.
In total we visited 9 cities in the Abruzzo plus an optional trip to Rome. On our last day we finished with a meal at Marino's house with his parents and their dog "Asso". The meal started with eggs and flour in the middle of the table and ended with Maccheroni alla Chitarra. We celebrated Crognale Festa and "adopted" Marino by giving his a "Famiglia Crognale" shirt.

Every Experience with Experience BellaVita was well planned, fun, and delicious! We spent time with local purveyors who were families, and they made us feel like a family member too. Food was delicious and authentic. Truffle hunt was fun.Walking tours were gorgeous and we learned so much about Abruzzo history. Best of all was Marino and Riccardo. We feel as if we made 2 new friends for life. We will be back!

This was our second trip using Experience BellaVita and working with Marino Cardelli. The purpose of this trip was to visit and explore the villages of our ancestorial roots and experience firsthand the culture, foods, geography, geology, climate, and history of the Liguria region of Italy. Working with Marino to plan this custom tour was a wonderful experience. His understanding of the importance of providing a memorable experience, attention to detail, and customer focus were outstanding. To assist with the planning Marino networked with a local tour guide and colleague Tiziana Delbono, who is from the Liguria region. From the start I felt that Tiziana was clearly the perfect person to assist us with this trip. Her friendly personality, years of experience working in the tourist industry, and vast knowledge of Northern Italy truly increased my confidence level in making this trip a reality.
Tiziana picked us up in Nice France and we drove to her hometown of Millesimo where we stayed. Millesimo is a wonderful small town and was a great base location for our trip. The next eight days of touring this region with Tiziana were just outstanding with each day filled with new experiences and surprises. She made sure we were tasting the best traditional foods and wines as we explored the small mountain villages of our ancestors. The most memorable for me was visiting Giusvalla and being able to see firsthand the birth records for my grandparents. Then to my surprise Tiziana introduced me to a cousin for the first time. Prior to our trip Tiziana made the contacts and did the research to make this unforgettable experience happen. This is not an easy task to accomplish by any means and she did it.
For the entire trip, Tiziana went well beyond our expectations to make this trip an experience of a lifetime that we will remember forever. And best of all we made many new friends in Italy and our bond with Tiziana is a very special relationship to us.
