Just OK
Jul 2020
A flurry of my pals were posting on social media about Cod Beck Reservoir over the Summer of 2020. I decided to see what the fuss was about. On the day I visited the weather was a little bit cold and alternating between sunny and dull. I found the reservoir to be just okay. Maybe the weather was letting it down? Maybe I've been to nicer masses of water? It was nice to get a bit of exercise though and take a few snaps. Free but limited parking.

Most people ignoring the Covid safety measures

Usually a lovely walk but during Lockdown, some problems with the One Way System that was supposed to be in place. From the small car park, only one small notice (on one of the gates) made it clear that there was a one way system (and please keep a safe distance), but none on the other gate (that was supposed to be the exit, but lots of people were using as the entrance) and no notices on the way around. Only half of the visitors obeyed the OWS and lots didn't even bother to keep to 2m away from others. So, if you're nervous about the current situation, sadly, I can't recommend a visit here. We visited on a Friday but I know that it's always much busier on weekends, so can't see this being any easier then.

Blissfully quiet.

What a lovely relaxing place to take a walk. There is a small car park but I imagine it gets very busy during weekends or holidays, we parked in Osmotherley and walked up, taking around 29 mins. The loop walk around the reservoir takes about 40 mins on a very decent path, there are also benches dotted about to sit and take in the view and also the lovely peace and quiet!

Peaceful walk

We walked from Osmotherley up to Cod Beck and around the reservoir, which is very tranquil and we carried on up to Sheep Wash, which is a nice simple walk.

Stunning walk

Really enjoyed the walk along the streams and resevoir. Few benches along the walk. Luckily we managed to get a parking spot so no fines. We hope to go back in autumn to see the different colours, would definitely recommend!

Ruined by Scarborough County Council Wardens
Sep 2020
Beautiful place to visit, unfortunately Scarborough county council are using Covid 19 and desperate families who have lost jobs or can't go back to work to hammer with parking fines in totally safe and unobstructive parking on the grass verges with 1 x 4" sign in a 2 mile stretch that is almost impossible to see, i was fined today by an agressive idiot who barged past me, nearly knocked my 5 year old child over, totally ignored social distancing rules and slapped a ticket on my car within seconds of parking, totally runined my day, don't waste your time going up there at the moment, there is about a dozen parking paces available and the wardens will spring out their cars the second you even stop, visit the place when coivd 19 has died off and there are not so many visiters, its a disgrace that council make in millions in fines and have so few parking spaces, do not park on the verges, the wardens are parked there in unmarked cars waiting to fine you

Spontaneous visit and we were amazed at the beautiful scenery! we will be back
Jul 2020
We parked in Osmotherley for free on the busy main street and walked up to Cod Beck, after a tasty lunch at The Queen Catherine Pub. It was a short walk to the reservoir, maybe around 15 minutes at a slow pace along the road. There are small carparks closer to the reservoir, but we knew spaces are at a premium and we were happy to walk. We advise to visit Osmotherley as early in the morning as possible! and to avoid peak tourist days if possible, as can be very very busy - even when we visited on a friday outside of school holidays.

The reservoir itself is really lovely and very popular with large families with lots of children and dogs! There is a very good path all the way around, except at the top end where it is more of a trail for a couple of minutes and there is a small bridge. Otherwise, prams and even wheelchairs would easily be able to be pushed along the rest of the route.

We enjoyed our walk around the reservoir so much we are returning again this week for a longer walk past the chapel and a larger loop around the reservoir.

We would highly recommend as the perfect after dinner stroll when eating out in Osmotherley, it took us around 45 minutes to walk the circular route all around the reservoir. Or take the kids and dogs for swimming and exploring and make a day of it!

Great place to go for a walk with the family. Lots of areas to explore. Nice clean, little stream with an ice cream van at the end of the reservoir to finish the day.
