Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This area around Luoyang and Dengfeng have deep history dated long before Xian and Beijing. One of the oldest Taoist Temple and must visit Lao Zi the founder of Taoism all the way at the back of the temple.

We had some extra time in Dengfeng after visiting a Shaolin the day before, so we chose to see this temple. It is very interesting and there is quite a lot to see and learn about Taoism.
Make sure not to miss out on the side corridors which a filled with very special statues. It was quite daunting at times.
It's working temple so can also observe local people coming to pray. The entrance fee was cheap as well.

We came here because it is part of the World Heritage cluster. After having visited so many temples, this site is just another where pilgrims come to offer homage to the many deities. It was quite quiet & peaceful, which makes it more enjoyable. We saw visitors as well as monks worshipping, others just resting on benches. Some old ladies were hawking red ribbons & religious objects.

According to websites, Zhongyue Temple was first built during the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) and was the place where emperors and ministers from various historical periods paid their respects to the God of Mount Songshan in central China. It is the largest and oldest intact building complex among the Five Holy Mountains in China. It is praised as the palace museum in central China and the sixth paradise of Taoism.
I visited this temple as I have half a day to spare. I took bus 10, 1rmb, to get there. Note for bus ride, ensure you have small notes with you, as buses do not provide change.
Entrance ticket is 30rmb. The temple complex is huge, with many temples, halls, rooms, gates and steeles. There are many very old cypress trees inside the complex, some really gigantic in size and height.
As I visited in Mar, low peak season, there are only some locals, mainly to offer incenses and prayers. Most of the time, I was entirely alone and enjoyed the peace and quiet there. Also great for photography, I could easily take pictures without anyone in the frame :). I spent slightly more than 1 hour just to walk the entire complex. Recommended if you have time to spare.

We visited Zhongyue Temple on the way to Shaolin Temple. Zhongyue Temple is a very old Taoist temple (about 220 BC) located at the southern foot of Taishi Mountain. It is the largest and best preserved ancient architectural complex in the China's Five Great Mountains area. Zhongyue Temple, a World Heritage by UNESCO is a major scenic spot in Mount Songshan National Park. My friends & I truly enjoyed the visit especially strolling through the lovely courtyards and gardens which is full of millennial trees. One of the must-see especially if you are visiting the nearby Shaolin Temple.

One of the oldest Taoist Temples in China, Zhong Yue Miao was built on the site of an existing temple and has thousands of years of history in it's bones. The surrounding town of Dengfeng's name originates from the Empress Cixi's visit there. A working temple, monks go about their daily tasks and visitors pray, practice taiji or just sit and enjoy the surroundings. Very laid back and casual without any of the pomposity or crowds of Dengfeng's other famous temple Shaolin. Unless, of course, you visit during a temple fair day, which is an amazing, chaotic spectacle in itself.

Quite interesting this place since several times been burnt and rebuild. There is old tree there, already 1500 years, its ginko biloba tree, the shaolin people using this tree to practice their kungfu with sticking their finger to it.
Before reach this place you can see student from shaolin temple taking their courses.
As for the architecture of the temple I think its the same with others

I visited early morning and the mist was wonderful. I heard music and followed into a back area where students were practising traditional instruments. Couldn't be happier. I haven't seen a larger Taoist temple . Even bigger than White Clod in BJ.

Meditate under 4000 years old tree! You can feel the history and ancient power here. So many 3000-4000 old trees in one place would be difficult to find elsewere.
