Sanpan is the best way to appreciate these small tributaries off the Yangtze. Quiet, peaceful, wonderful scenery. You can see where the villlagers who remained moved up the mountains to restart their lives. About an hours round trip, it's well worth it.

No wildlife to see on the river. Interesting commentary from the guide. Terrible toilets at the destination. Fun music and dancing show by local people at the destination pontoon.

Take a small 100 person excursion boat (offered with most river cruises) and Sanpan with 30 people if weather is good to explore far into the Gorges. It’s gorgeous! The month of November offers stunning landscape of red maple trees and local fauna. Monkeys live in the Canyon, along with wild ducks. Ancient, 2000 year old hanging coffins are visible along with spectacular limestone, jade and granit cliffs.…

Up close and personal with the great geography. Lovely scenery including a small village and s hanging coffin Only takes about an hour and is well worth the time to visit. Quite relaxing. If in a river cruise you will likely be offered this opportunity otherwise I think it may be hard to do.…
