I took this optional excursion through a Gate1 tour package on the Century Sun Yangtze river cruise. Luckily our group had its own boat. Our local guide "Lisa" was very friendly and knowledgeable. She sang songs for us, told us some history of the area, and what modern day life is like. Near the end of the ride, she did try to sell some books, tea, and carved animals, but we never felt pressured to buy anything. The quiet boat was nice enough with several wooden benches and a small back deck. Luckily we had a covered roof since it was drizzling/raining the day we went. Even with the rain, this blue-green stream was beautiful. It is surrounded by giant cliffs and mountains. We got to see several cave and cliff coffins. I would definitely recommend this excursion if it is offered.

This was one of the daily tours offered by the Century Diamond on our cruise down the Yangtze River. We disembarked the ship and went in groups of 25 onto smaller river boats. Our local guide was very informative explaining the history of the area and the people who live there as well as local customs followed today. She sang some songs for us and her pleasant voice reverberated off the towering mountainside. The scenery was beautiful - towering cliffs rising almost vertically from the water on both sides of the boat, lush green vegetation and interesting rock faces. Unfortunately, we came a day after a very heavy rainfall and so there was a lot of floating debris at the end of the small gorge (including a large dead pig) that was washed down the cliffs by the rain. The guide mentioned that a clean-up boat does a daily round to keep the waters clear. This was a great addition to our cruise on the Yangtze.

During our Century river boat cruise on the Yangtze they stopped so we could take this excursion on smaller boats up an unbelievably scenic gorge. Pictures cannot do justice to what the eye beholds - towering slopes on either side going up many hundreds of meters. In the top 10 scenic places I have ever visited in my worldwide travels. Do not miss it if you take the Yangtze cruise.

This is one of the side-trips on most Yangtze River Cruises, including ours. It is a peaceful ride on small boats (about 20 people) down a beautiful small gorge. It has the advantage of being easy; those with difficulty climbing stairs could still do this one (although one must still be able to walk).
The trip is very beautiful as the boat travels down this lovely stream in a narrow gorge surrounded by high cliffs and mountains. It was a beautiful afternoon and we sat outside at the bow of the boat. This was a great addition to our wonderful Yangtze River Cruise.

I visited the Shennv Stream as part of a Yangtze River/ Three Gorges cruise. For this attraction you ride in smaller boats with a local guide. The trip is so beautiful....you wend your way quietly through a narrow gorge bordered by high cliffs and mountains. The experience is unforgettable. We had a terrific young woman as our local guide. She did justice to the trip by sharing with us her knowledge of the history, geography, traditions of this area of Wushan. I highly recommend this trip...don't miss it.

We were lucky enough to take a sanpan trip down The Godess Stream. Truly amazing, especially seeing the remaining "Hanging Coffins", which were originally at river bed level. Most have been moved to museums, following the flooding of the area, by the construction of Three Gorges Dam, but a few can still be seen in caves near the top of the hillsides.

Shennv Stream, also known as beauty Stream or Goddess Stream, is a 16km long narrow side gorge on the left hand side of the Yangtze River where the Yangtze enters into the Wu Gorge.
We visited the Shennv stream whilst on a 5 day / 4 night Yangtze River cruise. Our cruise boat docked at a small pier at the entrance to the stream where we disembarked onto smaller boats. Spent about an hour travelling up the seriously steep sided Shennv Gorge / Stream through the stunningly beautiful scenery of the high Wushan Mountains. At the end of the upstream journey we disembarked from the small boats at a small floating dock where all the local guides sang local traditional songs and performed local dances. Great fun. Spent another hour travelling back down the Shennv stream / gorge to our cruise boat.
The Shennv side tour was included in the cost of the Yangtze River cruise.
An absolutely must see attraction, stunning.

The Shennv Stream was an included tour as part of my 3-night Yangtze River trip on the Century Legend. The boat seats about 20 people and takes about 60-90 minutes along the Shennv Stream - a tributary of the Yangtze River. The stream in many places is the color of jade and is overshadowed by mountains on either side that take on all colors of green. The mountains are part of the Wushan Mountains. The trip is scenic, relaxing, and just downright beautiful.

As part of our 4 day Yangtse cruise we had a trip down this stream which is also known as the goddess stream or beauty stream. We had a local guide who not only pointed out interesting spots but told us about her life living on a mountain accessible only by water. It was fasinating, and I cannot recommend this trip enough.

We travelled up the Shennv stream in small sampans to view the amazing scenery of narrow gorges, steep mountains, coffins high on the cliffside, and hear some of the local history.
