The light installations by Olafur Eliasson were both mesmerizing and relaxing in the blacked out exhibition hall. From Turin catch Ligne 1 Metro from Porto Nuova to Paradiso where you catch bus 36 to Rivoli. €1.20 single. We caught separate free shuttle bus up to the Castillo. (Taxi is €35 single trip. )Great views of the mountains and Turino especially from the top floor. Cafe served good coffee. Rest of exhibition varied in style, but Eliasson was the best of contemporary installations. Really worth a visit if temporary exhibition is this special.

Why do I say that you HAVE TO go there?
Well, let me split my review in two parts, the collection itself (Museo d'arte contemporanea) and the location where it is (Castello di Rivoli).
A) Museum of Contemporary Art
1. it contains several noteworthy pieces, some very interesting, a few rather good, none boring (and that's very uncommon in my experience when I go and visit contemporary art museums), a very limited number of videos (this is also a plus for me ;)
2. The pieces of art (I think) are easy to be understood by everyone, you do not need to have a degree in Art to appreciate them (another not-so-common PLUS point for the museum)
3. Several and explanatory captions make the experience even more enjoying.
B) Castello di Rivoli
1. You can enjoy a wonderful sight over the Torino area as the castle is on top of a hill
2. The little town of Rivoli itself is rather nice and might be worth a 30 minutes walk
3. The Castle is rather big (and it was not even completed according to the original plan, as you can read in the nice explanatory panels outside all around the buildings) and imho it manages - rather a rarity in Italy - to merge the modern- with the ancient-architecture in a pleasant and seamless fashion, which I've found very interesting and overall optically very enjoyable.
During your visit of the museum you actually pass-by the rooms of the castle and you will be surprised by the beauty of most of them - delicate and colorful frescos will delight your eyes, if your retina manages to get rid of Cattelan's or Pipilotti's works (yes I know I complained before about video art but you know, the world is never digital, 0/1, yes/no .. there are lots of gray areas ;)
just to pick a couple of examples ...
4. You are not allowed to skip the bar (I have no clue about the "real" restaurant though, I've read it is very good and therefore expensive ...): there I ate among the best panini ever in my life. The price is right, the taste is definitely there, you digest them easily, the waiter is OK, and you can seat outside eating and looking at the charming castle structure ... what do you want more?
So, all OK? Well, there is actually one thing that really annoyed me, but that had nothing to do with the museum nor with the structure: some of the guardians.
Especially (but not only) two of them (the ones patrolling on the highest floor) were speaking among themselves very loud and in such huge rooms their loud voice got even amplified ...
I have to say that the museum was not crowded at all (I might have met max 20 people in total in 2 hours), therefore the guardians followed me when changing rooms, speaking really aloud and laughing all the time.
After a while I asked them if they did not realize that they are not at their home and that they were really disturbing; the man told me "if YOU are disturbed then we stop it", meaning that it was just me being picky ... you know there are so many impolite and stupid people in the world, it's not really worth spending more on this …

I really like this museum, but in many ways it is the museum itself more than the art that is the draw. The art pieces are very contemporary set in a refurbished many hundred year old castle. It isn't that big, only needs a few hours, but worth a visit.

Amazing castle transformed into a great contemporary art museum! There is a permanent exhibition with very interesting pieces, and a part dedicated to temporary exhibitions. Even for someone who is not so fond of contemporary art, it's a beautiful stop.
Beautiful view over the town. Lovely terrace for a coffee and snack. There is also a beautiful restaurant.

If you are visiting Turin and are a lover of contemporary art, do take the time to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art, located in the picturesque town of Rivoli, about 10 kilometres away. This palace (don't expect a castle with turrets) once belonged to the Savoy royal family but now houses a prestigious collection of contemporary works and installations with regular temporary exhibitions. The palace itself was originally supposed to rival Versailles in Paris but unfortunately money ran out and what we have left has been renovated very tastefully to combine the original features with modern twists. The location alone is worth a visit as it sits on a hill overlooking the lovely historic part of Rivoli and with a view of Turin and the Alps in the distance. There's also a lovely cafè where you can take refreshments and, in good weather, sit outside and soak up the atmosphere. You can also peek into one of the most expensive restaurants in the region.
So what's the fly in the ointment? The museum ATTENDANTS! They must be some of the rudest, most aggresive attendants I've ever come across! I regularly attend events at the Castello, being a lover of contemporary art and attended one only last Saturday. Their arrogant behaviour towards the visitors was breathtaking. If they are so averse to other people, then they should not be working with the public. I appeal to the management: if you want to attract visitors to your beautiful museum and have them leave with fond memories, please think about who the visitors have to deal with. They have no right to shout at people as if they were naughty schoolchildren, they are art-loving, fee-paying adults who deserve to be treated as such! It's also their job to offer assistance, not act as if you've violated their privacy by asking a simple question! Shame on them and the management who do nothing about it.

Probably the greatest contemporary art museum we have ever seen. The building is renovated perfectly. Great art. This is definitely recommended.

It was a pleasure to have Miss Alice has a guide, she is very professional and so cute.

We felt cheated! Horrible art. We came in mid-July only to find both the cafeteria and restaurant closed without notice. Nothing was open nearby on a Sunday--we had to drive a half-hour to find Rivoli (where the only option was fast food), then come back. Waste of time. The exhibit of Georgio di Chirico paintings, advertised all over the city, consisted of a handful of works poorly displayed. The permanent exhibits are laughable. Ventilation is poor. This museum's point of pride is a room containing a dead horse, life-sized, stuffed and hanging from the ceiling. It is disgusting. "This is great art, and we paid a lot for it," they told us seriously. If taxidermied dead horses are your idea of good art, then maybe you will like it. We did not.

This is our second visit to Rivoli and our impression from first visit was confirmed.
This location is as well hidden as Louisiana Art Museum north of Copenhagen. The setting is unbelievable and the art is nicely blended with the setting. The buildings are out of this world and so nicely refurbished in synchronisation with the history and the new view of the world.
The curators are doing a very successful job and when there you are inspired on all senses. Which I lived in Turin!

Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev Direttore".
Per eventuali contatti potete fare riferimento a me.
