Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano in the Cabusilan Mountains on the island of Luzon, near the tri-point of the Philippine provinces of Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga. Before the volcanic activities of 1991, its eruptive history was unknown to most people. It was heavily eroded, inconspicuous and obscured from view. It was covered with dense forest which supported a population of several thousand indigenous people, the Aetas, who fled to the mountains during the Spanish conquest of the Philippines.

We traveled by bus from Manila to Capas in Tarlac and then to the tourism office to book the tour guide and the 4x4 It was 2nd January 2017, and for our surprise, 2nd January of each year, is the Sacrifice offering day for the Volcano Mountain. We got really curious and asked why there was a lady with us,... More

If you have a sensitive or delicate back then the 75 minute journey from the road to the parking area for Punitubo can be a challenge. It's tough going. But if you can endure it the hike is pretty easy and worth it when you reach the crater. Once there there's not much to do other than appreciate the view.... More

Dec-Feb are probably the best months to visit because of the weather. I was lucky that it was not too hot when i did the trek. The 4x4 ride was the highlight of this trip and i was just amazed with the mesmerizing scenery, and i thought how wonderful nature could be. i mean, something beautiful is created from a... More

Many of the literature I saw and those of what I heard on the trip – I never asked because I don’t need to by then – is that reservation was needed for the 4x4. The walk-in I met during the day coordinated with Capas Tourism Office and reserved. My trip to Pinatubo on the other hand was under the... More

I love the experience of doing that 2 hour ride by 4x4. The scenery was astounding! However, the trek was so-so. Plus, it didn't help that I didn't know they stopped bringing up the 4x4 ride till the 30 min "start of trek". Alternatively, you really have to do the whole trek thing, which is around 3 hours going up... More

I can still remember clearly how my brother and I played under the raining ash in our yard imagining as if it was snow 25 yrs ago. It was after Mt. Pinatubo's 1991 eruption which effects were felt worldwide. This historical event made our group realize that we must add this to our many travel bucket list. It was fun... More

Booked the trip with Tripinas, as their price was fairer than most other companies. Overall, the experience was quite good. But just a reminder, I know many people here say this trail is easy, it is, but really depends. For people who have no previous hiking experiences, be prepared, and dont underestimate this trail or overestimate urself. One guy in... More

It's about an hour of very uncomfortable 4 x4 driving in old battered jeeps with the suspension borrowed from house bricks, it's also so dusty that you are coughing and sneezing for days after, take a cloth to cover your nose and moth. There's a tiny Trek at the end of this ordeal , about 40 mins, and then a... More

Really a must do if you are in Angeles or even Manila. Great hike, not strenuous and the view is spectacular. Would go again.

Amazing landscape, fantastic hike, one of the biggest eruptions in history is now very peaceful. Starting point in Capas, 1 h 4 wheel drive, 1,5 hike not so difficult.
