About
Paramahansa Yogananda (author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi) founded Yogoda Satsanga Society of India in 1917. It was here, in Ranchi, that Paramahansa Yogananda began his life's work of making the teachings of Kriya Yoga universally available, with the founding of an ashram and a "How-to-Live" school for boys. All are welcome to come and experience inner and outer peace amidst the serene Ashram environs, and to discover the Raja Yoga teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. You are also welcome to attend the Sunday satsanga and daily meditations at our ashram. Paramahansa Yogananda's Room: The room is open to all for private meditation throughout the day. Litchi Vedi: It was under the shady canopy of this large litchi tree that the great Guru frequently held outdoor classes and satsangas for the boys who attended the school founded by him. Smriti Mandir: It was here that Paramahansaji had his vision of going to the West (as described in Autobiography of a Yogi)

One of the holiest most tranquil places in all of India, this is where Paramahansa Yogananda started Self-Realization Fellowship in 1917 and had a vision of Westerners. A must visit !

This was a dream realized in attending the week long gathering. The grounds are amazing. The flowers, trees and birds stand in stark contrast to ouside the walls of this sanctuary. Congratulations and deep arrpreciation go to the Monks, Brothers and Workers of this remarkable holy place. On the grounds is a hospital. Such peace and tranquility amidst friendship left an indelible impression on my soul. Thank you all.

The gated property is a santuary, retreat, monastery, museum, shrines, meditation grounds & temples for monastics, householders, locals & foreigners. It now includes an administration building by the front entry. And the former admin building-ashram is now a museum and mandir where Paramansa Yoganda's personal meditation room is open for devotees to meditate in. The side room is a mandir dedicated to Sri Daya Mataji.
YSS is not an attraction or sightseeing destination but a place to reflect, meditate &
retreat for peace, tranquility, personal improvement, and meditation specific to Yagoda Satsanga Society and Self Realization Fellowship.

Stayed at the ashram for three days. Enjoyed the peace and quietness. Rooms were comfortable with hot water showers. Meals were excellent. The environment was most conducive for long meditations. I would recommend staying for a longer period and adding some volunteer time. People at the ashram were kind, friendly and helpful. I will go back again

I have been contemplating for long time to visit the Math. With Guruji's blessings, I could make it for the first time on 21 Aug 14. I prayed at Guruji's Samdhi Mandir. I could spend only a little time. Hope to visit again and meditate for long hours.

It's really a very amazing and peaceful place. The ashram's charming atmosphere refreshes one's mind. The prasad given from the ashram is truly delicious, healthy and also light food (good for doing meditation). The gardens comprise of beautiful ,colourful.mind blowing flowers that attract people with its aromatic smell .The whole ashram premises is pleasant at early in the morning filled with charming of birds, slow rise of the sun ,etc. The hospitality of the monks and the sevaks in the ashram are unspeakable. The gurudeva is always within them , and ready to help us in every part of our life. I am indeed glad to be inspired by such an awe-inspiring place.

Hello,
We are a couple and we will be in India for a week from in April 2018.
We have red "the autobiography of a yogi" and we are astonished by the life of Paramhansa Yogananda. We are interested in yoga, meditation and self exploration. Can we attend the Ranchi Ashram? What will be a common daily programme? Ιs there a cost of admission to Ashram? Can we sleep over in the ashram? Shall we inform in advance the ashram's responsible of our coming?
Kind Regards,
Katerina

Ranchi is a business city, very well connected to the rest of India. Just get a flight to Delhi and a domestic flight to Ranchi; any taxi will get you to YSS Math. Jai Guru!
