About
Saint Spyridon Church , the miraculous and Saint of Corfu The history and the tradition of our local Church from 1456 is imminently connected with Saint Spyridon. The arrival of his holy relic from Istanbul, his staying in Corfu, the built of his church along with the establishment of five big feasts based on Him led the christians to believe that Corfu cannot exist without Him. But even our local Church owes Him a lot. Not only did He protect it during the hard times of the Venetian Occupation, but also from other foreign occupations. French, Russians, English, Italians and Germans have passed over our island, staying for different lapses of time.

Must Visit on Island of Corfu
One cannot visit Cofu without visiting this church. Try visiting when there aren’t any cruise ships in port because the church will be extremely crowded. Even if there is a long line, it’s worth waiting to view the 1700 year old incorruptible remains of this saint. Because St Spyridon is continually helping people, the soles of his shoes wear out and must be changed each year on his feast day. Be sure to check out the soles of his shoes when you view his remains.

A visit to the Church you shouldn’t miss
Spent a day in Corfu town and happened to come across almost by accident . Once inside it gave a real sense of history , worm timber on the seating which from the years of use is to be expected . Unfortunately you can’t take photos so you will have to look at the official ones that have been uploaded , if you have time take a look and marvel at the treasures insides .

    Fantastic ceiling art
This church is in the heart of Corfu Old Town. We found it quite by chance, in search of a cool and shaded place. There is plenty of seating and you will need to sit to see the paintings on the ceiling. I later discovered that this is the most important church on the Island and in Greece as a whole. The casket behind the alter holds the bones of Saint who was present at the Conference of Bishops in Nicea in 423 AD.

Make a wish when the casket is open for it to come true - Corfu tradition
After 17:00 the casket is open from time to time for a prayer, so you can go and pray and see the saint’s face. People say that a wish that is spoken when the casket is open, will come true. Also they giva small souvenirs as small parts of saint’s shoes, as they change them once a year.

St. Spiridon is the main Church of the island of Corfu, easily recognizable with its elegant and tall yellow, red capped tower.
It dates back to 16c, and was built in honor of the saint's remains arrival from Istanbul.
St. Spiridon is celebrated as the island's protector against foreign invaders, who invaded and occupied Corfu for around 5 centuries.
Entry is free, interiors beautiful - especially the ceiling and you will find St. Spiridon silver coffin to the right from the altar.

The Church of St. Spyridon is probably the most important church in Corfu Town and it certainly warrants a visit. The church was built back in 1859, making it one of the oldest churches on the entire island. The beautiful white church with its picturesque bell tower is very popular among locals and visitors alike and extremely busy when my wife and I visited. The church is extremely atmospheric and is dedicated to, and house relics of, St. Spyridon, who is believed to have performed many miracles and saved the island from major catastrophes.

The Cathedral of St. Spyridon of Trimifunt is an Orthodox church of the Kerkyra Metropolis, located in the center of the city of Kerkyra on the island of Corfu. The temple is obligatory to visit for any Christian. The place is salted. The room in the church itself is small and get ready to stand in line for the relics. The saint is the real patron saint of the island. Before visiting, read about "Spyridon's shoes". It's impressive.

The Orthodox church of San Spiridione is located in one of the streets of the historic center of the island's capital. Next to the church stands a tall bell tower visible from many points of the city. It is a place of deep devotion for the Corfiots and you must enter the building decently dressed and maintaining a decent demeanor so as not to disturb the people in prayer.

Lovely. Built in 1590. In one of its crypts it keeps the relics of Saint Spyridon, patron saint of the city, in a silver urn. It has the tallest bell tower in the entire city. With many and varied paintings, very cozy.
