- Cloud5Scottish Highlands, United Kingdom289 contributionsA must place to visitSpent the day here on a trip from Parga. Really enjoyed the 7 hours we had wandering around the old town. Lovely shops and eating places. If you are holidaying in Corfu or Parga i would recommend coming here to enjoy a different place.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2023
- CassimaSKBicester, United Kingdom273 contributionsShort visitSadly we had only a few hours to spend in Corfu Town and visited the Old Town quite briefly - what I saw left me quite impressed. There are plenty of colourful houses and lovely narrow streets with lovely cafes and restaraunts. I'm sure there is much more to see.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 October 2023
- Niels VAmsterdam, The Netherlands135 contributionsA nice stroll on the way to the fortAll those small shopping streets invite a stroll around old town. Definitely worth taking a look, but don’t expect too much. After 3-4 alleys most are the same. Though for the sharp eye there are some real treasures hidden here. Nice small bakery or restaurants hidden in the streets.Thank you for your feedback! Corfu Old Town offers a charming maze of alleys with hidden gems like quaint bakeries and restaurants. While some areas may seem similar, the town's unique treasures make exploration worthwhile. Discover its historic charm, the Liston Promenade, and the iconic Old and New Fortresses for a memorable visit.Written 7 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 October 2023
- Paul FLondon, United Kingdom256 contributionsGreat day at Corfu Town whilst leaving our bags at Flexy LuggageExcellent town to wander around and some very pleasant restaurants for lunch and dinner or just to watch the Corfu world go by. We visited for the day whilst waiting for our late evening flight home which was a perfect way to spend our last day on the island. For those doing similar I would recommend Flexy Luggage as a place to leave cases during the day .. excellent idea and service.Thank you for sharing your positive experience at Corfu Old Town! Delighted you enjoyed the charming atmosphere and dining options. Exploring the town and savoring local cuisine is indeed a delightful way to spend your last day. - Tommy599Two Rivers, Wisconsin863 contributionsCan get a little crowdedThe city received its name from early settlers and means two tops (hills). These two hills now are topped with the second century Venetian old fort, and the fourth century Venetian new fort. Corfu had been shortly occupied by the French, and long time occupied by the British, so the town STRONGLY reflects British history and monuments before they left in 1830. One medium size cruise ship (2,500) showed up overnight, and later in the morning another medium size and a very large size cruise ship arrived. Estimated 8,000 visitors just off the three cruse ships + all the tourist (?? Number) that arrived by ferry this Sunday morning (and there are a lot off the Ferrys).Thank you for sharing your Corfu Old Town experience. The historic Venetian forts offer captivating views, embodying the city's rich past. The British influence is evident in the architecture, a testament to their significant occupation. Despite the bustling Sunday with cruise ships and ferries, the town's charm and heritage shine through, welcoming thousands of visitors.Written 7 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 November 2023

There are a lot of small shops with merchandise and trinkets, and is overall fun to walk through the streets. - passionfruitsinSingapore, Singapore192 contributionsTouring Corfu on the cheap.Going about in Corfu from a cruise ship is easy. Out of the ship, look out for the blue public bus no. 16 which only runs when a ship is in port. If it is not there, walk outside the port gate to take blue bus no. 15. Both will bring you to the old town. Buy a day ticket for Euro 5. Bus no. 16 will drop you at a car park near the shore. Walk along the shore for about less than 5 minutes and you'll see an arch. It's next to the Asian Art Museum. Walk across the Esplanade and catch bus no. 2A. At the end of this route will be Kanoni, which is where Vlacherna Monastery and Mouse island is. When done, back to same bus stop to old town. After alighting, walk straight across the old town to San Rocca to take bus no. 10 to Achillion Palace if you wish. When done, same bus stop will bring you back to old town. The schedule on this route is less frequent, so look out for time. Last part is to go to the Old Fort, the churches, museums and walk around the old town. If you miss the no. 16 bus, not to worry. Go to San Rocco square and take bus no. 15 back. It's a slightly longer walk but no sweat.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 March 2024
- Eve B10 contributionsFun roaming the cityThe city center was lively and fun. Good shopping, food, people watching, and architectural history. It was not difficult to walk. I would suggest a cab over a bus, to get there. The busses are crowded. However, the bus is a cheap option. Cabs are crazy expensive.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 April 2024
- joyous_travellers135 contributionsShort visit to Corfu TownWe had a lovely walk through the old town & had nothing but friendly treatment. We came in on the city bus which was very good & and economic way to travel. Glad we did as parking looked scarce. We had a very nice lunch in Liston. Thank you to a trip advisor reviewer who said what a lovely area it was. I will review the restaurant separately. The architecture around Liston was stunning and views spectacular. Part of my reason for writing this review is that I really wanted to take issue with the reviewer who stated that Greeks were racist - Just because of one small incident. I saw absolutely no evidence of this. I did see a waiter being extremely kind and friendly to 6 beautiful black ladies having lunch at a restaurant. To judge a whole race of Greek people on one incident is outrageous & unfair. Perhaps the reviewer is the one who is racist.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 April 2024

Visiting Corfu Town can be an exasperating experience if you only have a day in which to explore this beautiful town. If you have longer, then take my advise and follow these areas at a snail's pace to enjoy their beauty and wonder. However, if time is limited, get out those roller blades and let's start moving. The LISTON is the first area in which I would recommend visiting. It is the French influenced promenade of colladed restaurants that flank the Spinada park on the eastern side of Corfu town. If time permits, find a cafe, order a drink, and take it all in. Off the Liston are several shopping streets which cater more to tourists than to locals: Spiridonos and Nikiforou Theotaki, both worth strolling. A stop to the major church of Agios Spiridon is a must for any pilgrim visiting Corfu Town as this church is dedicated to the Patron Saint of Corfu who saved Corfu from a plague in the 1600's. Across the street is Agios Spyridon Square, a delightful small open area with a few restaurants, the Ionian Bank and Museum. Best visited at early evening when you can sip a drink at one of the cafes and watch the children have a field day playing in the open square. Not far from the church is the Theatre Square or sometimes referred to as "The Townhall Square." The gorgeous square spills down from several levels which houses cafes, restaurants and the Catholic Church of Iakovos and Christophoros. At any time of day, this square is bustling with diners and is recommended as a pleasant place to dine in the evening when the city lights first appear. In the early evening, if you wish to view the sun setting over Corfu, I'd recommend visiting Faliraki, an area directly beneath the city's walls down by the beach of the same name, not far from the Old Fort. There is a restaurant that sits on a small piece of land that juts out into the ocean. Sitting outside, sea-side, sipping a drink and watching the sun set is a perfect way to end your day on Corfu.

I genuinely have fallen in love with Corfu Town! I have now visited Corfu twice and the highlight has always been wandering the Town. The first visit I went to all or most of the places that interested me and the second I went to the English Cemetery (got bitten death) and into some of the churches.
For me, the pleasure was finding the back streets and escaping. Far too many English cities and Towns seem not to be lived in and yet here you find yourself immersed in real life. There are some lovely small coffee shops and restaurants up these streets.
I probably would not visit Corfu as an Island before, but I will miss this beautiful Town

The Old Town of Corfu is a UNESCO is a World Cultural Heritage Monument it, is classified as one most important fortified city/ports in the Mediterranean.
There is so much to see and do here, the big four main attractions are the old and new Fortress's, Cathedral of Saint Spyridon and the Palace of Saint Michael & Saint George, however there is so much more.
Along the ancient streets and lanes there is always something for visitors to see, statues, monuments, churches, ruins, historic buildings and numerous other landmarks and sights, including the Jewish Quarter.
As well as the lanes and streets there is also the Spinada (park), with it's monuments and statues to take a stroll around. Not forgetting The Liston, with it's wonderful architecture.
Every type of shop fills the arched acarades along the street.
In need of a break from sightseeing then visit one the many bars, restaurants and cafes.

The city of Corfu offers, in addition to the many tourist shops, similar if not the same as other cities, also museums and fortresses, which I recommend visiting.
If you don't want to spend too much on food there are sandwich shops and chenabbari, the desserts like the fish in my opinion are a little too expensive, like here on the Riviera, while the meat is cheap and good. Don't stop at the mini markets to do your shopping because you pay double for everything, in Corfu town there is Lidl and in the rest of the island look for the disaunts, not the supermarkets, they often remain hidden and cannot be seen from the street, for example. before entering Sidari there are two on the left.
If you have the chance, take a boat (in August it is better to book it in advance) and go around the East coast. There are fantastic beaches that can only be reached by boat, the caves they offer are not that great and too crowded. Absolutely worth visiting is the monastery and Mouse Island with a spectacular plane landing. On the West coast the beaches of Paleokastritsa are very beautiful. Canal d'amour disappointed me a bit.
In all the beaches of Sidari, 1 umbrella and 2 sunbeds cost 30 euros and you pay them by eating or drinking in that bathroom/restaurant, and all the beaches we frequented have a shower and a cabin where you can change.

This is a lovely old town. Countless historic buildings, the whole area is quite compact, so it's very easy to walk and navigate.
Lots of restaurants, shops & more cater to the visitors. Bring some time to find some good products. Besides the usual tourist stuff (I don't mind them, why not) you also can find some real local arts & crafts as well as very good food for fair prices.
The easiest way to get in is coming from the small park "Spianada" on the east end of the old town, just beside the old Venetian Fortress. The main drag leading into the old part is the "Evgeniou Voulgareos". From there it's fun to stroll around, go left and right and get lost in this beautiful part of Corfu with cobbled streets and lanes.
Don't miss out on the Bell Tower, the St.-Spyridon-Church and the Palazzo di San Michele e San Giorgio.
For good, authentic food view with a views head just out of town in the north and visit the "Veranda Taverna" for some good little fish and Moussakka.
Lovely town, we'll be back.

We came here on a mini bus late one afternoon - one we'd bought tickets for up in Acharavi. On alighting from the bus the driver made a special point of warning me not to start drinking beer until much later in the evening. Wise advice. Did I look like a rowdie with my son, step daughter and her daughter in tow with me?
Anyway from where we parked we had only a few meters to walk into the extended tourist souvenirs market which they call Corfu Old town. Lots of narrow streets with large cobbled pavement slabs (some quite slippery), loads of kitschy shops, bars, restaurants and anything else to attract the tourists. One thing they didn't seem to have are any toilets. The only ones that I could find were hidden behind the marble statue of Count Johann Matthias von der Schulenberg standing majestically outside the Old Fortress.
We spent a minimal amount of time in the Old Town itself. It was really very busy with tourists. But we did find a lively restaurant squeezed in amongst all the buildings where we enjoyed a nice Italian meal. I steered cleared of the beer... And later that evening, after I had sneaked in a quick pint in a bar close by, we managed to get back to the bus stop at the allotted time for our journey back up to the north of the island.

Awful experience. It was absolutely heaving, walking tours everywhere just crowding the streets up. An army of coaches along the road, eluding to just how crowded it was going to be. The fortress was a nice “ahh that’s cool” moment but the giant queue put us off exploring beyond that.
We had a coffee and got lashed at by a Greek woman who had allegedly reserved the seat by leaving a glass of tap water on it. The service wasn’t particularly friendly but it was nice to escape the hustle and bustle.
We braved the shops, declining fake designer bags, fake football shirts and extortionately priced tourist tat. There wasn’t anything remotely unique- the same stuff was stocked in different shops. You could barely get in and out of the shops, and we frequently got split up by people barging inbetween us.
We tried to grab lunch somewhere but most places were either full or slapped in the middle of the crowds. I certainly don’t want a German tourist’s bum in front of my face whilst I make my way through a moussaka.
We eventually settled on the Europe Cafe. What a mistake that was. Appalling service, with children begging throughout the meal. One pizza was raw, covered in uncooked bacon and chunks of pepper. It was inedible. No one asked if our food was ok, and after a half hour wait, someone finally asked if we wanted to take the uneaten pizza home with us. We explained the issue and there was no apology, no remorse for serving awful food, just attitude. Eventually he came back and asked us to pay, saying we wouldn’t have to pay for the pizza. This was a fair resolution, but it was such hostile service, and we had been very polite up until that point.
Negotiating more beggars, we grabbed some water from a kiosk. Apparently 80cents is complicated change, so we waited ages for that- I think perhaps it’s a ploy to make tourists abandon waiting and to just tell them to keep the change.
It was a run down, money grabbing town and not one I would visit again, or recommend to anyone. The worst day of our holiday and we regret wasting a day going.

Pedestrianised in the main so easy to wander through to shop (tourist crafts, clothes, fruit and vegetables, groceries, local produce ) eat (cafes, restaurants, bars, ice cream and bakery / cake lines) from around 10am -10 pm. Prices of eating establishments generally very reasonable but you can go budget to high brow just look out for unrequested items and send them back immediately and check you havent been asked to pay for them despite this. The popular one is bread (usually very cheap but not everyone can eat it) or bottled water. We got caught by a bar that served us some sides which we took to be complimentary but actually were €10.
Look out for the odd car, delivery scooter or bike whizzing through. Felt very safe even after dark and not being hassled to enter premises was a plus. Goes from quiet to really busy especially when up to 4 cruise liners arrive and leave in one day. A bit oppressive on hot days because there was little breeze passing through but plenty of shade in all the little lanes and alleys where you could get lost briefly.
A UNESCO site but seems quite run down and shabby and could do with investing all the tourist dollars that must flood into the area. Whilst the streets are clean they are uneven underfoot and many buildings needed attention to exteriors.

This was my last stop of much island hopping this year. I have seen beautiful clean islands that are very well cared for by its residents. Corfu has a history and that’s what makes it beautiful. However, the sewer system is not kept so there is a stench of human feces at all times when it was never like that previously. There are many roaches in the main city, when it was never like that previously ( and mostly come out at night) that I decided to not buy food from there any longer. As I walked, the tile paths are full of gum. The paint on the building are beyond over due and graffiti has taken over. There is literally a lot of garbage between buildings and paths when it was never like that before . The traffic lights have no light. The light poles that should be lighting roads and residencies are not lit when it wasn’t like that before. I was charged 60 euro one way to get to my studio apartment from airport to Paliokastritsa, therefore obligated to rent a car for multiple days. Corfu residents are rude and have zero patience. I used to live here 10 yrs ago, and I came back due to nostalgia. I regret wasting my money, because I saw an island that is completely neglected, where its residents are completely ignorant to their own island. My daughters are in their early 20’s and have encountered many youth, that have left or planning to leave the island. From all three of my daughters friends, they were able to connect with only one friend because none have stayed or returned to the island of Corfu. I wonder what will happen in 20 years when Corfu residents retire, and there is no one to continue the money flow of the island’s earnings. I refuse to come back till things change. If that is to never see this island again, so be it. I wasted money to get very disappointed in the efforts of these people. What Corfu was before, it seems like it will never be again. Very sad.

Corfu Old Town is a great place to spend 2 or 3 days sightseeing before heading to the beach towns on the island. We really enjoyed the Venetian architecture, visiting the museums, and seeing the colors of the town change from morning, sunset, and nighttime. At night, the locals families and children come out to stroll and the day trippers are gone. It’s refreshing to see everyone out walking and enjoying the evening air. Lovely restaurants, cafés, and artisan shops line the narrow streets, and the historic district is very pedestrian friendly. Wear your comfortable shoes and be aware that some areas are paved with cobblestone near the waterfront. Easy to do 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day, and there are many good hotels for overnight stays.

Hi, I wasn’t looking for such pubs, in July, nevertheless, it is a small town, there are several pubs and I’m sure that you will find PL games.

καλησπέρα, σκέφτομαι να περάσω την πρωτοχρονιά στην κέρκυρα. την κυριακή 2 ιανουαρίου θα είναι ανοιχτά οι καφετέριες και γενικά τα καταστήματα εστιάσεως;

It really depends on what type of break you are looking for.
If it's a relaxing beach holiday in a beautiful surrounding, then definitely Kassiopi with a couple of lovely beaches (never crowded) but also a great place for eating, exploring and just taking it easy.
However,if it's more "cultural" then Corfu Town is a must.Plenty of places to visit, great museums, and lovely little alleyways with various shops. The town does boast a "beach" but it is really only harbour like into the sea.
Either way two great places.

I'm currently on holiday in Corfu and was wondering is there a better day when it's a bit quieter to visit Corfu Town and where to park. Thanks.

Tuesdays and Fridays are really busy days because of cruise ships visiting Corfu. Wensdays and Thursdays are a quieter, Sundays for sure. There are parkings in Liston Square, San Rocco Square and near the old port.
