Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited with my daughter & 11 month old grandson. The town doesn’t look much until you reach the entrance to the old town. Then you see it’s charm.
Nice park just outside the city wall/ main entrance where my grandson could let off some steam.
Being out of season, there were no crowds (I could imagine it being a bit much in season) & we enjoyed walking around & looking in the different shops.
Fabulous handmade ceramics but not cheap. Nevertheless we bought some pieces & I’m sure I’ll be back

The Historical District is full of Ceramic shops and a ceramic lovers paradise. Be warned they Siesta so not much open from 1 to 4. Get there early in the morning for a relaxing fun day shopping.

There is a lovely piazza and central fountain and a few restaurants and bars but mostly there are lots of ceramic shops selling locally made majolica. If this is what you want to buy then this is definitely the town to visit.

Deruta is one of a hundred small Umbrian hill towns. In Deruta's case, the town is driven by the ceramics industry, which means that there are some (expensive) shops but otherwise the center is pretty undistinguished. If you are looking for more charming small cities, there are better options in the area: Bevagna, Montefalco, Spoleto, Spello. If you want the ceramics, then Deruta is definitely the place to go.

On top of hill, 9ld town, lots of ceramic shops, many of which will produce your own personal ceramic plates, bowls, etc. this shop in particular was fun. First shop n right as you pull into Old town at top of hill.

We were in town for business with one of the local shops outside of city center. The town is VERY quiet this time of year but beautiful all around. It is lined with ceramic shops to choose from all along the streets.

Its a nice enough little town but for us disappointing compared to others in the area. We went to visit the ceramics museum but even for a pottery enthusiast its hard to digest, very dry and relatively uninformative, despite a wealth of available material. A shame. It was out of season when we went so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves and 2 very traditional cafes to chose from. Perhaps there are more things that bring it to life at other times of year but this didnt do it for us.

and the remains of the old furnaces dating back to the sixteenth century bear witness to this. Every corner of this village speaks of ceramics, every wall is decorated with these works of art; the shops sell amazing brightly colored objects, colorful corners and contemporary art will accompany you through the alleys. The historic center houses ancient churches, artisan shops, bars and shops.

Who knows why Deruta is so little known... The historic center is full of small ceramic shops, of exquisite workmanship, unique pieces created by skilled ceramists. Everything talks about ceramics. From the town sign immediately outside the entrance door, to the street furniture with benches and tables which are true works of art.
Last year I also saw it decorated for Christmas and in the main square the particular ceramic tree stood out, 11 meters high, entirely decorated by local artists.

Beautiful village not far from Perugia, famous for its majolica tiles has a historic center from which you can enjoy a beautiful view.
One thing that deserves a visit, and that we unfortunately could not do, a visit to the furnaces where the majolica is produced.
