Antica Fornace Baiano is a genuine historical and cultural treasure -not to be missed- with beautiful pottery!ANTICA FORNACE DERUTA, located in the historic center, is always open. It is a genuine family run pottery shop, with an exceptional museum, a one-of-a-kind antique collection of pottery from the original largest pottery factory in Deruta complete with artists renderings and prototypes from over the centuries. Also inside the shop is the first kiln of Deruta, an Etruscan and Medieval pottery kiln to explore, with all of the artistic history of the birth of pottery in Deruta and fragments on display. Don't lose time and energy. ANTICA FORNACE DERUTA is the first place you need to see when you come to Deruta to understand and live again the history, the tradition, the passion, and the beauty that Deruta has given to the world for centuries through its art of hand painted pottery. Learn it from a family of quality artists and artisans, the Baiano family. The shop is open every day, all day. You will recognize the building by all the colorful pieces and shards of pottery embedded in the wall – always a favorite photo-op. The Baiano family lives above and is always available. Someone is usually in the shop, if not, either call up to the window ... Francesco! ... or call the son, Giovanni! who runs the shop and speaks English. In the shop, they sell all types of pottery using the unique designs from their collection for the table and home furnishings, wedding gifts and plates, and more. They also do custom table service in the antique style or from a piece of art that you like. When you buy a piece of pottery from ANTICA FORNACE DERUTA you bring an exclusively personal and unique piece into your home. We await your visit!

An amazing place with a fascinating history; an opportunity to explore the history of Deruta's famous majolica in one shop. We took a liking to a plate design and ordered one similar which was made from scratch in just over a week. Deruta is the home of an ancient craft and this is a great place to discover it.

Wandered over to look at the antique furnace which dates back to the Etruscan times. You can actually walk inside and see the fragments and other items found in the kilns when they were discovered. Lots of interesting pieces in the little museum which show the history of ceramics in the area and also the work of the 4 generations... More

My friend from Idaho took me to Antica Fornace. Giovanni is really nice, informative and I loved the mini museum. There are so many fabulous designs to choose from it made it hard to decide! The exterior of the building is embossed with ceramics from the ages, really cool.

This was a most delightful experience. We met the Italian owner (whose family has been making ceramics for, pretty much, ever.) and his Amercian wife. Their family home is located above some ancient Etruscan ovens (which had been covered for centuries and were only (relatively) recently discovered. They have an amazing collection of ceramics----including fragments from way way back. Many... More

I spent almost a month at the Scuola de Arte Rainieri, in Deruta. The Antica Fornace, is in the old city of Deruta, has a mini-museum of photographs that document the history of this ceramic town from the perspective of a family that has been in the ceramic business for hundreds of years. There are great pictures of the original... More

Antica Fornace Deruta is located in the popular ceramics production city of Deruta, Italy. The establishment is off the main street, but searching for it on narrow streets of the old city is half the fun. The business is family owned and operated and has been in Deruta for several generations. When entering the shop you will immediately notice a... More

We spent some weeks in Italy before we found the shop from which we wanted to bring home momentos and gifts. The key reasons for shopping at Antica Fornace Deruta are three. First, the ceramics are lovely--some designs are new, but most are based on the best from past centuries. Second, the shop has a history. You can step into... More

Lovely place to visit in Deruta. The ceramics for sale are beautiful, especially the ceramics that he creates that replicate antique pieces. He makes an olive oil/vinegar bottle that is very unique and must be purchased. The owner took a lot of time to explain the pieces to me and his mini museum out the back is very informative.

I am an Italian pottery addict and have several pretty pieces in my home from travels to Italy, but the overall interesting and high-quality inventory in this beautiful shop gave me pause. After a chat with the dear expert owners, my husband and I walked out with two very special additions for our place. A total plus is that they... More

Not being much of a shopper or browser, most of the shops near the main square didn't catch my interest. This place, however, was worth the effort it took us to find it (not that hard, just not that good at directions!). We enjoyed our conversation with Giovanni, as well as our viewing of the museum, kiln, and contemporary pieces.... More
