Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The walk starts at the cemetery, close to the market in Purmamarca. Easy to find, easy to walk. It is not a trail but a broad dirt road. Takes about 30-40 minutes to walk, but it is a bit annoying that it is allowed to go there by car. Many alternative ways to make the walk shorter or longer. One side trail takes you up to a higher mountain, really worth it as the view from there is stunning. Best to go in the morning or evening during the hot season. The colours are magnificent!

We choose to drive the dirt/stone road the winds around the colorful stone formations that surrounds the town of Purmamarca. We stopped many times to take in the beauty that nature has provided to this area. Worth the short, easy drive.

The Cerro de los Siete Colores (Hill of Seven Colours) is THE reason why travelers go to Purmamarca. This hill and nearby formations are seen throughout this beautiful trail. which starts and ends in the village of Purmamarca itself. It's free of charge.
It's called "Los Colorados" because of the reddish tones that predominate, but you can also appreciate different shades of yellow, violet, green and grey. Whoever said the hill had seven colours made a serious understatement!
The landscape is beautiful and I don't have enough adjectives to describe it. The trail is not very strenuous and it takes about an hour if you do it on foot. The trail is more of a dirt road, so you can always take your car, horse or bike! If you decide to be slightly adventurous, you can always leave the path and climb up the hills to get a wider view of the area. However, I don't recommend this to everyone. The descent can become tricky thanks to those tiny loose pebbles that abound.
If you are ever in the area, don't miss this natural wonder!

What can I say! The scenery is beautiful and the Cerros have incredible shapes that change colors at dawn and when thd sun sets. I only have a couple of comments: first and foremost, a similar view but much more spectacular is to be found in Ayers Rock in Australia and Brice Canion in the US. Secondly, if you travel here from the Valles Calchaquieres or the Quebrada de Cafayate or Quebrada del Toro, this place will not impress you much. Make sure you have it as your first destination if you are travelling thru these areas and yoj will be able to enjoy it more. And remember, the best is yet to come!

There is absolutely no reason you wouldn't visit this place if you were physically able. Admission is free, place is easy to get to, views is gorgeous, and it's not difficult.
Walk is about 3km and took me and my mom slightly over 1 hour. Views are gorgeous and landscape is unique. There's a viewpoint in the beginning where there is a lady charging 20 ARS for admission (nickel and diming but worth it).
Definitely worthwhile!

You can either pay 10 pesos and climb a small hill above the town of Purmamarca or you can walk 3kms around the back of the hills. I strongly recommend the second. If you do, go early. It’s an easy walk and takes around 40 minutes. The colours are best early in the morning. You won’t be disappointed. It’s even possible to run it, as we did !

Though its a climb , one doesnt feel it because its gentle. A must do passage. The best part of being in Purmamarca . Different angles, different views , different hues and shades on the hills depending on the time of the day and the slant of the sun

Our tour was "Salta La Linda" and was booked through South America Tourism - check them online - it was 6 days and 5 nights and included airport transfers, accommodation, breakfast and tours. The part to Purmamarca and Paseo de los Colorados was 2 full days. We were supposed to do the "Train to the Clouds" (Tren de Las Nubes), but there had been a rock fall and we were given a private tour for this bit instead and I am quite sure it was a better option. Email the company above for more details. Cheers, Trish
