Michell Rolland is one of the most recognized and acclaimed winemakers in the world, as well as one of the fathers of Argentine Malbec. He founded the “Clos de los 7” project together with 6 friends, where some of the most exclusive wineries in the Uco Valley are located.<br><br>Our visit covers the wineries Monteviejo, Cuvelier Los Andes, DiamAndes and the recently opened to the Rolland public. We picked this place based on a spur-of-the-moment drive by! We were greeted and heartily welcomed by Chef Augustine who was delightful! She is from Buenos Aires, but speaks very good English. She has been the chef here for almost one year. The place is very pretty and charming. We were first presented with a basket of different breads. OMG. Fantastic and all made in house. One was a dark bread that had chocolate in it, but it was not sweet, but so, so good. The bread was a favorite of all of us. We were also served a small appetizer of zucchini strips with a cream cheese stuffing, decorated with a tiny edible flower. We all tried something different, but we all agreed that our hands down favorite dish was the gnocci. This is the dish the chef most recommended after describing all the options to us. I told her she could even make this in a small version as an appetizer/starter. We also had the prawns, the trout, and the salad with jamon and bok choy (the asparagus was not in season). For dessert we had 4 different scoops of ice cream (from a local creamery) which we all shared. All of our plates were clean by the end of the meal. We loved that she was open to suggestions on the different things we ate. She is an up and coming chef and was eager and open to hearing what we liked and what we would do differently. (All 4 of us love to cook, love to eat and love to drink wine, so we were an eager group to talk about all things food and wine.) After lunch, she took us to the hotel and showed us one of the rooms. (There are 8.). Then she toured us through their organic vegetable garden (kale, tomatoes, pretty Marigolds and more herbs) which was gorgeous. (Oh, we also all like vegetable and herb gardens.) On a side note, the chef likes to box which I found very interesting as I have toyed with the idea of taking boxing for exercise. Just might do it now. As we were leaving the bodega, we were able to watch the workers removing the grapes from the vines. What hard work, but we appreciate the fruits of their efforts (pun intended!!!).
