Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice authentic town square.

Lots of nice restaurants around the square with a variety of food available.

Stage set up for the saints festival at the weekend. (Experienced this in Monte Gordo) wow it was great.

Big plaza with cafes and restaurants . Fun mosaics on ground. A memorial in the centre for the Marques of Pombal. Good meeting place and chilling out. Admire architecture of buildings on the square.

Once the Hub of Sardine/Tuna processing alas many of them drew to a halt in the 80's leaving vast buildings wasting with the passage of time. A ferry from here to Spain was once the only way to cross the Guadiana River for transport/passengers in the South-East of the Algarve until a bridge was constructed slightly north of the town, again in the early 80's.The ferry to Spain is a must and a look around the interesting town of Ayamonte with many Tapas Bars and shops which hold that flavour of Spain. Vila Real de Santa Antonio attracts many tourists from all over Europe with it's sale of cotton towels, bed-linen and tablecloths. It's a "party-town" with lots of celebrations which tend to begin late and finish early the next day! The riverside park is very popular for a stroll and dotted with the ever-hopefull fisherman/woman. Many bars and restaurants avail themselves and are child friendly .

Lovely place. Lots of lovely little shops. From souvenirs to shoes to linen to kitchen tools to bath towels children wear, ma4ket stalls , small funfairs, pastries shops, coffee shops, small eateries. Lovely square where all the locals meet up and kids play. Lovely nativity grotto at Christmas, can spend up to 1hour in there for 50 cents entry -avoid weekends if you can-. Walk a.ong the river and look at the boats use the open air gym with the locals, walk across the pine forest to Montegordo. Enjoy it!

This is the city’s main square, and as such boats quite a few restaurants, sights (church), municipal buildings and businesses.

And it’s actually a very good looking square!

We loved Vila Real de Santo Antonio. The plaza was very nice with lots of restaurants around it. In the evening there are stalls outside on the plaza. The ambiance in July/August is very lively

This is a place has a lot of history attached and well worth a visit if you'd like to know more about Portugal's rich history.
The perimeter is surrounded with small shops, cafes and places of interest.
The benches are an excellent way to sit and relax in the sun whilst taking in the Portuguese architecture.
