- Celestine65Kent, United Kingdom296 contributionsGreat Pebbly Beach With Great FacilitiesWell it is pebbly & I need swim shoes to go in however the sea is crystal clear & great for swimming. There are sunbeds all along the beach varying from 9.5 to 15 euros for a pair with parasols. There are so many bars & restaurants to choose from & many of the hotels have a waiter/waitress service on the beach for food & drinks. Beware the nibbler fish at the shoreline as they love to nibble away at scabs. My husband kept getting bit this year but they left me alone!Visited July 2023Written 14 July 2023
- Dave GWorthing, United Kingdom86 contributionsBeautiful views and waterSkala beach is a 5 minute walk down from Skala (which means you may have to walk back up if you want to bet into the town) Facing west, it brings some of the most beautiful sunrises over the clear blue waters of the ionian sea. The beach itself is small pebbles, that do heat up considerably in the hot sun, so it is advisable to wear beach shoes while walking or swimming. I managed to go out on the water for quite a bit and am pleased I did. With the water so clear I was soon snorkelling away swimming with the fish, which were in plentiful supply. It was absolutely stunning. Further up there are plenty of waterworks activities and there were a few paddleboarders out on the water too. With a calm sea and little wind it looked perfect for them too. For the landlubbers there is also plenty to do, with a number of restaurants nearby, and loungers for hire. Definitely one of the nicest places to swim I have ever been.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 July 2023

There're many bars and restaurants along it. You can rent 2 sunbeds and an umbrella for 10 - 15 Euros, but there's plenty of free space as well. Beach is mix of sand and pebbles and you don't need water shoes.Visited July 2023Written 16 August 2023
- Revunicorn14 contributionsA lovely beach but bring beach shoes.I did not like the beach when I first saw it as it is stoney rather than sandy. However, I grew to like it. The water gets very deep very quickly and the stones can be a challenge when getting in and out (bring water shoes) bit the sea is calm so nice to swim in. The sunrise is amazing and worth getting up for. The snorkelling is good as there are reed reefs with lots of fish in them - best in morning or late afternoon. I even saw an octopus. Beds/umbrellas are expensive but get cheaper the further up the beach you go. Day beds / cabanas are around €20. Drinks and food are quite pricey. There are showers dotted along the beach. It is a public beach so lots of people set up with their own umbrellas etc.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 August 2023
- Jayne200047Suffolk, United Kingdom116 contributionsBeautifulBeautiful beach! I can’t stand busy crammed beaches, but although lots of people at the beach it doesn’t seem crowded as it’s so long and spread out. There were always sunbeds available. The beach is stony - most people had beach shoes or just wear your flip flops to the water edge and get straight in it’s ok. Crystal clear waters just beautiful. It’s probably not the best for little kids as only a few steps in and it’s very deep. It is also changeable quite quickly - one minute calm then some big waves! Would definitely recommend and will miss not seeing it everyday :(Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 August 2023
- Julie T ManchesterManchester, United Kingdom30 contributionsLovely sand and shingle beach.Stunning sand and SHINGLE beach. The sea was warm and as clear as crystal you needn’t really need a snorkel because you could see to the bottom, even when the sea went a little deeper. It was tricky getting in or out unless you had sea shoes because of the shingle. I would advise you get these before you leave and they are quite expensive in Skala. Approx €10 for 2 beds; you can stay for as long as you like. There are a few nice restaurants on the beachfront too. I can’t wait to go back.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 August 2023

It has a very long beach, a handful of shops and bars, and that's about it. Remember the demographic for Kefalonia is 40 years old upwards, then you'll understand why it's a little quieter.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 October 2023

We’ve been here for a week and today 09.09.2023 (our last day) was finally promising to be sunny and no wind. I’m literally sitting on the beach right now, searching for things to do, because the wind is sooo strong that it’s not enjoyable to be here at all. The photos look stunning, but it’s hard to capture the wind.

Much of Skala beach is populated by very nice-looking sunbeds and umbrellas, serviced by local bars; this is a great option for comfy sunbathing. However, walk a little further and their are acres of space, empty beach, even in high season. Lovely clear water for snorkelling; a cheap and cheerful parasol for free sunbathing. We had picnics on the beach at sunset (though beach faces the wrong way, it's still a pretty sky), and walked along under a beautiful full moon on our way home. Very relaxing.

Hi all, was wondering if anyone can give some information on Skala in kefalonia. Is it a busy resort with things to do? Dont want it to be too quiet, going with my mum so dont want nightclubs exactly but want enough for us to keep us busy for the week!

Skála is a nice and busy resort with restaurants to do to or little bars. Nice to walk around and also depends on the time of the year you go for example July August is quite busy.

Hi, I've read some reviews of Dial a beach & some say sandy beach & then others say pebbles. Which ones correct?

We visited Skala beach 5 years ago from our stay in Lassi. The beach was awful, pebbly, rough and you were up to your neck in water within 3 feet of going in. Absolutely no good for small kids. Hated it, Lassi beach far superior with golden flat sand, and beautiful crystal clear shallow sea. No comparison to Skala beach. Although we may have just ended up on the 'bad bit'., not sure.

Hi we travelling as a family of 4 -2 daughters age 18 & 21 is there any night life in Skala?

Hi,
Have in mind that the island is huge and I believe that the capital is where the lively parties and strong clubbing takes place. That doesn't mean that Skala has no entertainment, you'll certainly find quite a few like Captain's Bar,Akri seaside bar,Veto Bar,Metaxa Beach Bar,Yuca Bar etc.Kefalonia is generally more 'laid back' than Zakynthos for example where there is an incredibly strong nightlife which young people adore. But that doesn't mean your daughters won't find something to their taste.
