The Moorish Barracks is quite a striking and handsome building, set high above the street. However, you are only able to see just the very first room of the interior, which contains some interesting nautical artifacts and a bit about its history (which is quite interesting). The rest is unfortunately off-limits! Too bad-- I really wanted to see more.

the building is old and renovated, looking good outside, but it is not possible to see it inside as it is occupied by some authorities, not far from A-Ma Temple

Even though it was built by an Italian Architect, it was constructed to accommodate the military from Goa in India. But is just like a building from Portugal was lifted out and placed in Macau! Well worth a visit, and it is on the historical Macau trail which is well worth doing.

It's quite far end of Macau and there's really nothing there but an office building that you can't enter. Don't bother to go.

We tried to visit the Moorish Barracks this past Chinese New Year to find that they were not open to the public. It was a bit disappointing to not see the inside of this attraction but we did enjoy walking around the long outside veranda and looking at the Moghul and Islamic architecture of which this building was designed.
All in all, the Moorish Barracks is an interesting and unique inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage collection and we look forward to a future visit and seeing the inside of this building.
In addition to visiting the Moorish Barracks, you can also visit other nearby UNESCO attractions including the Lilau Square and Mandarin's House up the street, 3-4 minutes walk, as well as Barra Square and the famous A-Ma Temple just a few minutes walk down the street. Lady of Penha Church and the Maritime Museum are also nearby.
All in all, the Moorish Barracks is an interesting and unique inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage collection and we look forward to a future visit and seeing the inside of this building.

It was a part of our macau heritage tour and thus explored this place. Read all the history about this place. Unfortunately we can only see it from the outside and entry is prohibited inside.

Wonderful architecture and a truly spectacular building. Enjoy the outside as the building is not a museum.

We continued our tour of Macau heritage after A-Ma Temple by foot using the Macau Heritage Trial of Historic Centre of Macau map downloaded from the web as guide. A piece of advice for those with weak leg and poor stamina, it was a long ascend to the hill road to the entrance of Moorish Barracks. We arrived at this heritage which was built in 1874 from the back of the building. From the web literature, the building housed 200 soldiers recruited from Goa to help support Macau's police force. The Quartel dos Mouros is now the head office of the Macau Port Authority. Stll standing tall the Moorish Barracks is majestic for its age.

We were on our way to A-Ma Temple when we noticed the Moorish barracks, a wonderful building where troops were stationed. The barracks were constructed in 1874 to accommodate Indian soldiers from Goa. The building has an Arabic/Gothic design, unusual for Macau. In 1905 it became the headquarters of the Port Authority, but unfortunately visitors can only walk around the outside, and cannot enter.

It you get along accidentally, pop in, otherwise, it’s not worth it to go all the way. All in all the building looks not very attractive.
