Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are several interesting things to see within Guia Fortress including the charming lighthouse which stand next to the Our Lady of Guia Chapel. This lighthouse dates back to 1895 and is one of the iconic images many associate with Macau World Heritage.
Historically, this was the first modern lighthouse built along the coast of China. It is an attractive building to see while visiting the fort. Unfortunately, you can't enter the lighthouse but can walk near and and photograph it up close. Further, while sightseeing around the city centre you can see the Guia Lighthouse from many locations by looking towards up Guia Hill.

A trip to the past, to visit the most ancient western-style beacon in the East. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden, on a hill, and has a spectacular view over Macau. Sadly, it is now very far from the water, because of all the continuous land reclamation. Good to visit with children, they can run around and play safely. One of Macau most popular jogging circuits.

Portuguese colonial buildings atop a hill with great views. You can either walk up, drive up, or take the cable car up from the Flora Garden Gate. There is also a park surrounding the area. The visitor center has interesting historical photos. Some murals were preserved in the adjacent chapel. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Guia Lighthouse built in 1895 was the first lighthouse built along the China coast. It is located upon the top of Guia Hill and is an inclusion in the Historic City Centre of Macau World Heritage collection. You can visit the lighthouse by walking up the steep Guia hill, taking a taxi (best option if you are short on time) or by taking the fun Guia Cable Car found at the entrance to Flora Garden. Unfortunately, at this time, you can only look at the lighthouse as there is no entry allowed into this historical building.
In addition to visiting the lighthouse you can also see the Guia Fortress grounds, the Lady of Guia Chapel rooms and a small stretch of the old air raid tunnel. There is also an interesting room at the entrance of the Fortress area set up by the Macau Observatory, providing information about typhoon activity in the region over the past century, this is worth a quick stop. Excellent sweeping views of Macau are also available from this location and can make a trip to the Guia lighthouse worth your time if sky and viewing conditions are favorable.
Overall, because the Guia hill attractions are quite isolated from the rest of the historic city centre, it might not be a priority area to visit for those with limited time in the city. However, the attractions here are good enough to justify your time if staying a bit longer or if interested in seeing some very nice views over the city.

This was a good place to visit with an energetic child. A simple taxi ride away from the Centre of the Macau Peninsula, too. The story of the Portuguese defence of the City against the Dutch from this point was interesting but the park full of grey squirrels in the trees and ice cream sellers in caravans is fascinating for young ones. It was easy to walk down the hill to Senado Square afterwards as well. You definitely need a camera and stout walking shoes. There are so many great photo. opportunities around the lighthouse and the chapel, not to mention the panoramic and ever-changing views of the macau skyline below. Macau is not always associated with history given its current frenetic modernisation, but really it ought to be.

Bit of a hike to get here. Lighthouse sits inside the small fort, which in turn sits in a reasonable park. Nice please, photo ops. Be a short visit, not much here otherwise.

Walked through the gardens and up to the lighthouse. A scenic walk, while not too tiring. Loads of history. Good view of Macau from the lighthouse.

Given that the city is a tight squeeze, having an open area on top of a hill overlooking the city is the best place to unwind and see Macau from above. I take this better than the Macau Tower, especially that it is for free. Going up is also a breeze with the cable car at the Flora Garden, and the ride is very cheap at $2 per pax. I love the walking/jogging paths leading to the lighthouse, and various exercises facilities scattered along the winding paths, as well as the tunnels built in preparation for the invasion of the Japanese in World War 2 which never happened. Guia is working lighthouse its not open to the public but the park surrounding it is worth visiting.

We wandered our way to Flora Garden & took the cable car to the top of Guia Hill and then walked along to the Fortress & Lighthouse. The views over Macau were fantastic and while you can't go into the Lighthouse, the Guia Chapel is well worth the visit to see some of the frescoes that have been uncovered.
