The Dambulla Cave Temple is located 24 km (30 min) from Sigiriya in central Sri Lanka. Built in about 80BC It is the largest and best preserved cave temple in Sri Lanka. Inside are 153 Buddha statues in various reposes, three statues of ancient kings, and four other statues including those of Vishnu and Ganesh. The ceiling and walls have been repainted over the centuries contain a juxtapose of imagery including those of royal life.

Prepared to climb up the hill about 300metres on the stony stairs can be challenge if you are not fit enough. You will have a great view along your hike up to the temple. Do wear modestly with sleeve shirt and pants over your knees....More

No entrance fee for the local and it takes 10-20 min to walk to the hop. One of the most important sites other than Sigiriya Lion Rock.

our driver chamara drove us to here its very nice temple covered with a very big stone. everyone should use proper clothes when entering here. we think its better to use good clothes for every temple in sri lanka.
