A very necessary reminder of the terror in this region under the dreadful regime of Stalin and his henchmen. The museum itself, in the former NKVD prison is small with many photographs and documents. All are in Russian (naturally) and translations are few and far...More

Recommended to those who haven't visited a centre on this theme. Not sure it's a must see, but it was good to take a break from Tomsk's wooden architecture spotting. Another sad reminder of political madness.

Worst a visit to learn about what happened in this region of Siberia. Not too much English but still interesting.

Worth a look. Very interesting, but tragic history. Photos, cells, documents showing organised terror.

Paid the extra 400 Rubles for the English tour. Worth every cent. Very interesting history explained in as much detail as you want.

Well, my problem with Russian museums is twofold and repeats itself here One, they are very much text based - not helpful, if you (like me ) do not speak Russian. Two, they are uncritical! I mis the critical reflection of the past. Here you...More

Not too much English on any exhibits but you get the harshness of the Labour Camp/repressive era without the text. Solid cell doors, photos of individuals and families who did not survive, items found or used in camps. Horrible but part of Russian history and...More

This is a very small museum in the basement of a former prison. You get to be in a cell, which is the only thing you can understand if you don't speak Russian. However, it is interesting to see the photos and other memorabilia from...More
