- Sanjiv ChopraKolkata (Calcutta), India13 contributionsBeautiful viewWe visited towards end September. A lovely drive to Chandanwari with scenic views .Very nice streams along the way.Nice view from Chandanwari. We had apple juice from one of the vendors while walking. It was phenomenal made from the juice of fresh kashmiri apples Definitely worth having at a cost of only Rs 50 a glass. You need to be careful while walking in Chandanwari. I almost got knocked down by some wild ponies which appeared from behind.Luckily, I was saved by one of the apple juice vendors . Other than this incident it was a very nice visit with an awesome view. You get a view of the path walked by pilgrims during the annual Amarnath pilgrimage.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 October 2023
- Debashis TDehradun, India2,297 contributionsReligious as well as tourist placeOne thing in whole Kashmir I like is the fixed rate of taxi in Pahalgam. No bargaining and you have to choose your type of vehicle according to price, but most of the time they say that lower end vehicles are not available and you have to take SUVs, which costs you 3200/- for 3 spots(Betaab Valley, Chandanwari and Aru Valley).Betaab Valley and Chandanwari is in same route and worth seeing. But you may skip Aru Valley. It is on another route, long distance nothing to see there. Here to mention that in Pahalgam, you can’t take your cab from Srinager to visit places in Pahalgam. You have to take local taxis like in Sonamarg. One of the tourist places in Kashmir where you will find snow. It is one of the commencement point of annual Amarnath Yatra, the other one being Sonamarg. The Lidder river is flowing through the valley.Plenty of reason to take photographs. If you wish you can climb few steps leading to Amarnath Cave. Many small shops are there near the parking area. The coffee and apple juice sold in these are awesome. Though not much to see here, but you can spend enough time sitting on the big stones in the river and enjoying the snow clad mountains.Visited November 2022Travelled with familyWritten 27 October 2023
- Modassir AhmedKolkata (Calcutta), India3 contributionsMust Visit. If you have only one day please priortize Chandanwari , aru valley and betaab valley over Baisaran.Chandanwari and other beauties of Pahalgam like Aru valley , Betaab Valley, are really scenic and mesmerizing. We really enjoyed our trip. All credits to Ashiq bhai . This is not an endorsed comment. This is an honest review based on our experience. You also can contct him on 9797726520. Our trip was mainly guided by Ashiq bhai. We really were carefree on our trip because of him. For first 3 days Ashiq bhai arranged a vehicle and a driver in a reasonable price. Mostly people like to loot you on tourist places, telling you fares touching sky heights. But Ashiq bhai being honest and a humble man , who not only charged us fairly but took care of various other stuffs during our trip, making it more easier. He also informed us about the scams and the accurate charges of other trip activities whether it is snow related activities or a simple shawl shopping so that we dont get looted. I really thank you Ashiq bhai if you are reading this review, for making our trip to Paradise of India amazing.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 January 2024
- Navigator070717785031 contributionExperience of Kashmir visitWe hired Innova vehicle to travel in and around Pahalgam. This season is very cold in pahalgam and need to be equipped with warm cloathes. We could visit Aru and Betab valley without any difficulty but couldnot go to chandanvadi till the end due to heavy snow fall on bothsides of the road.Due to this roads became narrow resulting in vehicular traffic jam. People who love enjoying snow fall can enjoy this season.People who love greeneries and nature best time to visit is the month of August,September.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 March 2024

You need to take a cab from the association only and not other cabs are allowed. You need to change your shoes to gum boots and thick jackets and hire sledges to take you to the snow point, and snow bridge. The surface is slippery so walk is not advisable .. the cost for two sledges with coats and show comes upto rupees 5000 . - Rashmi BhatMysore District, India28 contributionsBeautiful place with mesmerizing views on the way!We liked this place very much. The road to reach Chandanwari from Pahalgam is very scenic. This place had good and fresh snow when we visited in the 1st week of April. It is advisable to wear proper sun glass and buy rental gum shoes before going on the snow. I personally felt this place is better and peaceful as there is no much trouble of ponywalas here.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 May 2024

Total waste of time, since the road is closed by the army, due to stopplage of the Amarnath Yatra. Therfore one can only walk about 200 meters from parking lot to the fenced out area. The "guides" at the parking lot are a big NO NO. There is nothing to guide, and they will relieve you of your money in advance. Amongst all of Kashmir, the guides and horsemen at Zero Point and Chandanwari are the worst. Avoid them at all costs.

We enjoyed a lot there. Chandanwari would give you a chance to play with the snow. It is beautiful place with Lidder River flowing very closely. At this place, there was snow and jackets and boots are available on rentals. This is the gateway of Amarnath yatra. Best time to visit this place is from March to April.

Its just a place where the Amarnath Yatra starts. There isnt anything here to do. lots of tourists and crowds and the locals harassing ppl for their wares, photos , sleds etc. If you have been to Gulamarg and done the snow stuff, cut it out of your trip and save the bucks.

Chandanwari is further than Betaab valley. It was raining all through our stay in Kashmir i.e. during April 2023. We literally were witness to a snow fall. Please carry jackets and headgear for this place. The coffee was lovely. Lots of snack and tea/coffee outlets. People are friendly. I purchased kashmiri jewelry for just 100/- for a pair or earrings. Worth visiting but be prepared for the cold.

The Glacier experience is to die for, one can hire gum boots and sticks to walk up the glorious glacier. In fact snow sledge is available on hire as well for thrills. We just decided to tredge up the glacier without a pole or stick for the fun of it. If possible do carry appropriate gear. This was the most spectacular part of our Pahalgam trip

Chandanawari is the last point on the motor able road to the Amarnath cave of devotees are travelling from Pahalgam. The drive from Pahalgam to Chandanawari is beautiful. The river stream along the way looks stunning. The mountains are majestic. After reaching this place, once can see how tough the further journey to Amarnath will be. Though there is not much to see at this place per se. I enjoyed the ride to this place and the cold water of river on way back.

Is it advisable to walk on foot from Pahalgam to Chandanwari?
Apart from scenic beauty, how is the road congestion on this part? Are too many vehicles on the road and it is not possible to walk on foot from Pahalgam to Chandanwari?
I am planning this year to visit and wanted to walk from Pahalgam to Chandanwari, but no where I can find the information as in
What kind of road is there?
How comfortable or possible to walk on this patch?
Everyone just say to take shared cab from Pahalgam to Chandanwari.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Written 17 May 2018
Roads are good with no congestion but it is advisable to hire a taxi because if you want to hire in the mid-way then you won't be able to get one. You have not mentioned the month of travel because when we visited in the month of April itself there was no fresh snow all snow was avalanche snow

Hello. I am planning to visit pahalgam in the month of May? How is the weather their? Can I get to see snow? And which places is best to see?? Please help me.
Written 21 January 2018
Weather in May at Pahalgam is pleasant and will get cold in evenings, a pair of jacket will help to make you feel better.
Snow is not available at Pahalgam, but can be found at Chandanwadi, one of the valley to be seen at Pahalgam.
If you are in pahalgam, please do visit, all 3 valleys, Aru, Betaab & Chandawadi. Also, visit pahalgam valley, kashmir valley & mini Switzerland.
Please plan your stay for 2 days at Pahalgam, this will cover all places.
Have a safe and happy journey.
