A rather plain cathedral
Sep 2019
The building dominates the centre of Castelfranco with its imposing facade and the square in front. The interior is quite plain and austere with little to see except for Giorgione's altarpiece in a side chapel.
The Casa Giorgione is the cream painted building to the left of the cathedral and well worth a visit.

Huge cathedral, worth a visit
Oct 2019
A building that dominates the small old town. Worth visiting with paintings of note and an impressive fascia.

Excuse to return
Sep 2018 • Friends
Friends kindly took us to see Giorgione's Madonna but unfortunately it was not on display due to restoration work. All was not lost as we very much enjoyed thew calmness of the Duomo and we now have reason to return.

Pretty little building.

Cool, quiet, within the castle walls. Plain and unadorned interior with a famous religious painting.

Giorgione
Jun 2018 • Couples
The duomo is distinguished mainly for having a Giorgione in a small side chapel to the right of the altar. Otherwise, while not unattractive, it wouldn't attract much attention.

Worth the visit
May 2018 • Solo
Beautiful church with an interesting main altar. But don’t forget to see the painting by Giorgione of the Madonna with St. Francis and St George (aka Liberalis) and the altar with the martyr “Guistino”. Added bonus: this is also the Cathedral in which Giuseppe Sato was ordained a priest – he who later became Pope Saint Pius X! History in the making.

Duomo di Castelfranco Veneto (The Cathedral of Castelfranco) is a classic catholic cathedral. Nothing out of the ordinary, bu they have a alter peice of Giogrione.

Famous alter-piece....
May 2018 • Solo
This 16th / 17th century building in classical Palladian style houses a great treasure - the only known example of an alter-piece by Giorgione, still housed here in his native city. The Madonna and Saints alter-piece is a remarkable work and shows the real talent of Giorgione - it is worth scrutinising closely just for its clarity and symbolism - although I'm afraid it is not shown off to its best advantage here, as it is confined to a small (and rather gloomy) side-chapel of the Cathedral, rather than being displayed in all its glory with good lighting. A pity therefore, but well worth the visit and viewing nevertheless.

Nice church if you are in the area
Jul 2017 • Solo
I wouldn't drive out of my way, but if you are in Castelfranco and find parking near the civic clock tower I'd say stop in to visit the church. There's a collection of artwork and the duomo is impressive.
