Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We biked with our four kids (ages 8-18) on rented bikes, from Amboise to this chateau. Since it is more of a hotel, and not a public tourist spot, it was very peaceful be on the grounds. We couldn't tour the chateau, since were not guests, but we paid a small fee in the gift shop to access the grounds, which were something to see! The trees, the landscaping, and the old moat were awesome. We had apple pie in the cafe before biking back to Amboise. I woul

We wanted to go see some of the very well known castles within the Loire Valley, but due to difficulty in getting to them, we were unable to see them. I did lots of research to find other castles that we could go visit that aren't as popular and came across this one.

We caught the train from Tours and it was just an extra 20-minute walk to get there through the streets of the old town, which in itself was very quaint. It was quite easy to get there!

This castle is just stunning and the gardens are beautiful. We went during the low season and in the winter, so the gardens weren't in full bloom, but it was still incredibly charming. It is definitely a castle that should be given more attention as it is a beautiful one that should not be missed!

We stayed at the château for some days. In the first day we visited the gardens, with the tomato plantings, the many trees and natural spaces. The whole is very nice, well kept, and this makes the château a very nice place to visit. Worth going.

Early in the season but the chef was still keen to show us the garden and help us explore and appreciate various varieties in the garden. Our daughters were lucky enough to feed a 2 week old lamb!! Delicious fresh soup, salad and bruschetta for lunch. Beautiful setting. Book ahead for lunch or dinner!!

Another chateau on the Loire, well it is above the Cher just before it joins the Loire.

This chateau boasts a collection of tomato varieties unique in France and perhaps Europe. Many of them were growing in the garden and displaying fruits of different sizes and colours. Red, yellow, purple, orange, striped, round, oval, pepper shaped. What a variety developed over the five hundred years since they were brought back from South America.

This chateau has several functions - as a hotel, with tennis courts, a swimming pool and pleasant gardens; as a garden attraction in its own right; a showcase for a training school in growing tomatoes, of which there are apparently 700 different varieties; and lastly an eclectic collection of flowers, chickens and whatever else comes to mind.

The tomato plants are amazing, all different colours and species (many with English names). There are local experts explaining details to erudite visitors; in August many of the tomatoes and other vegetables had grown to enormous proportions, probably to enable them to seed. Nearby is a magnificent display of dahlias and a simple hump built to enable the visitor to survey the working farm and a variety of other attractions.

None of this is smooth or photogenic, that's its charm. It's a fascinating counterpart to the great 'potager' gardens in the better known chateaux around.

There is a shop from which you can buy the usual over-priced souvenirs.

A practical hint or two : RHS membership gives free entry to the gardens. The chateau's website suggests that individual entry is only available with a guide, which is clearly a mistake as everyone was doing their own wander but guides are available for tours or experts in tomatoes. And check the opening hours before you visit.

The gardens at Chateau de la Bourdaisiere contain over 400 varieties of tomatoes along with several varieties of basil, lettuce and a multitude of vegetables and herbs. The old stone garden walls are covered with pear trees on one side and vines on the other. Butterflies are in abundance on the "butterfly bushes" and several varieties of roses add colour and magic to this peaceful oasis. The gardens also have hundreds of varieties of dahlias . Flowers and vegetables are clearly named and the shop at the Chateau sells seeds of all the varieties of tomatoes in the garden. Near the garden is a swimming pool and some wonderful walks in the woodlands. If you love nature, peace and quiet, this garden is for you ! Enjoy!
