The Duomo is gorgeous and the view from Monrealo to the Palermo bay is just amazing. The only thing to keep in mind is that every Sunday they are closing half the city during the church processions.

Visited while in port - easy to get to by taxi or bus. Amazing mosaics, largest in Italy, 7600 sq m from early 12C. You can easily linger in the area and soak up the atmosphere in the relative quiet of the surrounding square and garden.

When you visit Palermo, you must see the Duomo. It is located in a quaint Sicilian town with a magnificent view of Palermo. It is difficult to get any distance to view the Duomo from the outside because it is closely surrounded by the town. The real gems are inside. Go inside and take a seat and soak up the... More

The Cathedral in Monreale is easily the best church in entire Sicily. Ornate mosaics that depict scenes from the Creation, the deluge and other religiously significant moments adore the ceiling. Monreale is small and peaceful to walk around, so not limit yourself to Duomo, walk around and potentially have a lunch. There are also great views on Palermo. Be aware... More

The cathedrale is a beautiful building and the mosaics are amazing and well preserved. It is interesting to get a quick guide that explains the meaning of each mosaic. The entrance is free but it is worth noting that the cathedrale is closed at lunch time - we were there in November and it was closed from 12:45 to 15:30.... More

Probably no other European cathedral has ever impressed me so much as Monreale did. Pure Rommanesque art. Just breathtaking experience which deserves not to be ommited.

This in my opinion is a beautiful church on the same level as St. Peter's in Rome. There is so much beauty and history here that will blow you away, from the beautiful Doors, to the gold on the ceiling, to one of the most amazing Pianos. This visit I was able to travel up to the top which on... More

I would recommend a tour it really does speed up the wait. It ws just amazing, the tour guide was very informative, we would have missed some of the fine points if we didn't have a guide. The walk up to the top of the dome was not my favorite but I stood in the doorway at the top and... More

Step inside Monreale Cathedral and have your mind blown away. The mosaics here beat even St Marks in Venice. Built in a mix of Arabic and Norman styles this cathedral almost defies description. Its floors, and more particularly its walls are covered with the most intricate designs in mosaics. The lower frieze is Arabic style and above there is a... More
