This is a MUST SEE attraction. Bring binoculars. Bring a zoom lens for your camera. Take time to savor the mosaic art. The quality, detail, beauty and amount of the mosaic art is overwhelming. We were lucky enough to attend an evening service where we had the time and quiet to absorb their beauty. This is easy to do on... More

Attended Christmas Mass here, plus many visits to see beautiful mosaics. Parking hard to come by, better idea to walk into town if possible.

I've traveled all around the world. My wife and I are of Catholic culture and have seen many churches. This is in the top three churches I've ever seen. Besides St. Mark's in Venice, and the Sistine Chapel, this is one of the best. Every square inch is a marvel inside and out. The town is beautiful with great views... More

After all the glowing reviews, I was a bit underwhelmed by the Duomo di Monreale. Maybe because I had seen the Capella Palatina just before taking the bus up the hill. Yes, the mosaics are beautiful, but it seemed just more of the same (see photos). Despite being it the off-season, there was a long line to get in just... More

The Cathedral and Cloister are more than worth the trip to Monreale! You will find another a spectacular World Heritage site with mosaics like this only in Istanbul or of course here in Sicily. Incredible craftsmanship and overwhelmingly beautiful Cathedral.

...but this was spectacular! It was hard to pull one's eyes away from the intricate and overpowering design throughout. I was especially taken by the border mosaics, each of which was in a different pattern and style. A photographer's dream.

I have really never seen anything like this. It is the most fantastic church with the most beautiful story telling in gold etc. It is big. It is beautiful. It is extremely impressive. Not even the Saint Marcus in Venice is on this level.

Astonishing bizantine church. The mosaics are Wonderfull ! The church is so beautiful as the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood of St. Petersburg, Russia. A must see if you are in Sicily !

My advice is to visit the Cappella Palatina before visiting the Duomo di Monreale. Mainly because if you enjoyed (as you must!) the first one, you'll have no words to describe the second, which is basically a plus sized copy of the Cappella. Incredible works of mosaic and golden glow everytime you turn your head to something new. The cloister... More
