Situated at the Heart of the Battle of the Somme (1914/1918), the Somme 1916 Museum of ALBERT traces the lives of soldiers in the trenches during the Franco-British offensive in 1916. At 10 meters below ground and 250 meters in length, you will discover realistic and grasping scenes of the daily lives of our soldiers. Mannequins are brought to life through twelve realistic scenes transporting you to the past. Time passes but the memory remains. The museum is translated into 4 languages using panels (French-English-Dutch–German), and can also be guided by one of our guides in any of these languages.

War museums tend to be overwhelming to me and I usually avoid them as I suffer from PTSD. The military regardless of an age is not a walk in the sun. Here war on the Somme is stripped bare to the bone. It was a...More

This museum is great value for money. It has so many interesting items and details that have been gathered. The trench art display is lovely and the stories really illustrate how hard life was in the trenches. Some very poignant stories too.

Excellent museum, plenty of information and artifacts on display. Excellent 3D short video shown.Haunting to see and read everything and especially walking through the part of the tunnel where there are sound effects. Well worth a visit and only a small entrance fee.

Very informative! Good starting point before exploring WW1 sites of the Somme! My teenage son soaked up plenty of facts!

The Somme museum has scenes set up to show what it would be like at that time, and cases upon cases of relics and weapons.

Interesting underground museum. Will take about 1 hour including the 3D movie. Lovely park just outside the gift shop.

We stumbled upon this Museum by chance as the entrance is next to the Basilica. We are very glad we did. It is set in tunnels under the town and the exhibits are very well presented with several tableaux giving an impression of the trenches...More
