A different aspect of Sicily
Sep 2020
Mazara del Vallo is an old port and a little run down. But the Kasbah is definitely worth a stop. We didn’t have a guide but enjoyed getting lost among its lanes and felt that the town was very vibrant because of the artwork on the walls. It’s still a place that people live in and not just a tourist experience.

Fascinating

What wonderful unexpected art we found as we strolled through this section of town. From the walls to the walkways it was decorated. Beautiful painted vases too.

Very nice old town with Moor's arabic history
Jan 2019
We spent a few hours walking around this old town on our own, admiring the old Moorish history here, and the various arabic sites. There are various wall plaques throughout, showing the history of this place. Worth spending a little time getting lost in the maze of streets and eating at the local Tunisian places.

Hosni,best guide in Sicily!
Jun 2019 • Couples
We met Hosni just by walking in Marzara del Vallo and we've decided to go for a tour with him. The historical city is beautiful and Hosni knows everything about it. We've been very impressed by the beauty of Marzala. Also Hosni is only 20 and he's so much resourceful, everyone knows him in the city and he can tell you everything you want to know!

Didn’t do a tour, but...
May 2019 • Friends
As a group we walked around the area of the Kasbah. It’s a very interesting place and I think that a tour would really enhance the experience. Unfortunately, we arrived late and, the next morning, had to leave early. More time would have been good to really get an idea of Mazara del Vallo.

Kasbah with Hosni
Apr 2019 • Solo
I’d say that tour made my day. Hosni is a joy to follow through the kasbah and listen to some of the historical facts he imparts. He’s very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Mazara. The colorful tiles are beautiful.

Our Tunisian guide, Hosni, is a delight.
Nov 2018 • Friends
Hosni, a 19-year-old Tunisian resident, guided us through the Kasbah, talking about history and culture. Mazara del Vallo is working hard on their tourism, and there is a great deal to see in this town - well worth a stop. The theatre, the Dancing Satyr, all highlights, as well as Hosni himself. Spending a short while on a guided tour of the Kasbah is part of the experience.

Casbah? Bah!
Nov 2018 • Couples
A bit too staged and lacking the exotic feel of a true casbah. Some nice art on display in the maze of alleys that make up this quarter, and don't omit going, but be prepared to be a little underwhelmed.

Interesting
Sep 2018 • Couples
This is an interesting area but you definitely need a guide or you will get lost. The streets are narrow, winding, can suddenly dead end - like being in a maze. Beside our guide, we had a local young man join our group. With his help, we were able to enter a home to see the amazing tile work, meet his grandmother, and hear his family's story.

Interesting history
Sep 2018 • Family
The Casbah of Mazara del Vallo show the multi culture nature of this town. Tunisian immigrants moved here and still live here. Almost abandoned, it is now and thriving community. You need a guide or you will get lost.
