We spent a sunny afternoon wandering round the gardens (house isn't open this time of year) and had a wonderful time. The grounds are very extensive and cleverly laid out to present different views and aspects with carpets of snowdrop in abundance around lakes, lawns and trees. A few crocus and other spring flowers too already, giving the promise of... More

We visited to see the snow drops in bloom. Impressed that price was reduced as house was not open - other attractions should take note. Snow drops and other early Spring blooms did not disappoint. Tea rooms open and can recommend the ginger and chocolate chip shortbread.

In the middle of winter, in England, most old houses, castles and other attractions are closed. Forde Abbey is no exception, but the surrounding gardens and the cafe are open so on a very cold Sunday in February, we went to see the snowdrops. The gardens were extensive and, apart from a few dollops of dog mess, well maintained and... More

Great old house, even better gardens where there is something of interest all year round. Large tea room which good food, if a little expensive. Plenty if places to picnic and an excellent plant Centre which is good value. The staff are all very friendly and helpful

Beautifully maintained, Wonderful landscaped grounds, woodlands, lakes, fountain, various gardens including walled kitchen, perennial, bog, rock and lawn etc The historic abbey house is fascinating and magnificent, well worth going inside. Considering it is still owned and run by the Eeles family, independent from the huge resourceful might of the NT, it's truly excellent, and has a peaceful charm and... More

We took our dog to the gardens which we didn't have to pay for. You only pay for the walled gardens directly adjacent to the Abbey. A beautiful autumnal day to wander among the russet leaves. Didn't go into the house, it was closed. A beautiful place for a wander.

It was a cold November morning, but we thought a walk in the garden would be fine. We were welcomed by a very pleasant lady who shared with us that it was half price as only the garden and Chapel were open. Would have loved to see the house, maybe next visit. The colours in the garden were very Autumnal... More
