Beautiful converted Cistercian abbey with well laid out gardens. Even thought the weather was sunshine and showers, we managed to see the gardens between showers and impressed with the fountain display. The abbey has been changed into a lovely home with outstanding 17th century tapestries.

Difficult to find - thank goodness for the brown signs! At £10 entrance fee I though it was a bit expensive as the holes was closed (it was a Monday.) However the gardens are extensive and very well maintained - goslings waddling around and a lovely sunny day so a good excursion for me!

We enjoyed the gardens of Forde Abbey and also had a nice lunch here- the house was off limits as we had our dog with us but because the weather was so good this was not a problem. Cost wise this is good value I think and we spent over 2 hours walking and also having lunch. The views are... More

Sounds good .. dog friendly, including café and gardens, with house and grounds both worth a look. We found; TICKETS NO CONCESSIONS FOR OLDER PEOPLE. FOOD. Not especially imaginative or extensive menu; our food would have been a little less expensive in National Trust. DOG POLICY Ticket counter person stated dog needs to on lead everywhere. This is understandable and... More

We were fortunate to have a lovely sunny day for our visit and spent several hours exploring the gardens., which are large, varied and very well maintained. Do take the time to watch the fountain when it is scheduled to be displayed as it is quite spectacular. The Abbey building is interesting but we felt there was not enough information... More

We stumbled across this attraction whilst driving around. We were pleasantly surprised. The house was interesting and there was a lot to see. The gardens are beautiful and diverse. There are different ponds, gardens and an arboretum. The tea rooms are lovely and even have a supply of soya milk. A nice surprise!

The grounds are very tranquil and beautifully laid out. The house is truly amazing and magnificent, so much history and unlike national trust properties you are made to feel you can enjoy the fabric of the building close up. An irresitble garden centre for those who are keen on finding some unusual plants. Excellent value .

Visited the gardens but not the house. The gardens were lovely with a wide array of tulips accompanied by bluebells and blossom trees. Impressive fountain in one of the ponds. A very pleasant place to visit although it would have had 5 stars had there been concessions for older visitors. £10 for the gardens and £12 to include the abbey... More

When visiting Dorset we always look forward to going to Forde Abbey. The gardens get better every year. The new winter garden has really taken shape. On this visit (late April) the gardens had some spectacular displays of tulips. We normally also visit in the summer when the rock garden is at its best. Make sure you time your arrival in the...
