Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Although not much remains of the Citadel, the extensiveness of the walls are amazing. You can still see a land gate, a well, and several temples. It's worth a few hours to wander around. Make sure that you also visit the Mazhar of Shah Sultan Balhki in town.

The area around the village of Mahasthan was probably the earliest centre of Bengali civilization. The whole area is filled with archaeological mounds and many of the exhibits which fill Bangladeshi museums (and antique shops) were dug out of the soil around this little village. For anyone wanting to understand the history of this small but densely populated country, a visit here is a near must. But having said that, this is less of an impressive 'sight' than we expected.
There are dozens of mounds covering a 9 square kilometres, but most of them are still unexcavated and so there is little more to see than a few grassy mounds. The main site around Mahasthan is the Mahasthan Citadel. There are some larger sections of wall here and the foundations of a temple nearby but really there isn't too much to see. The best sight in the vicinity is Gokhul Medh, which should really be listed as a separate attraction.

My purpose was just to get some fresh fruits and vegetables.
Unfortunately my visit was during afternoon hours....the freshness value was low.
Please visit this place on Wednesdays.
Early morning till late evening...on a wednesday, there's "Haat Bazaar". You will get to experience the freshest farm produce possible.

I've been there couple of times and always I discovered something different. There are many attractions in one place altogether and they all have their interesting myths and stories. For example, Shila Devi's Ghat is a place where Shila Devi, daughter (some sources said sister) of the then ruling king, committed suicide when the city was attacked by the Muslim leaders who eventually conquered it. This is just an example, you'll find many such stories associated with each place in Mahasthangarh. I'd recommend you to search the web first and gather relevant information before visiting this amazing historical location in Bangladesh.

I found this place having a lot of histories. An ancient city, the famous mosque and well of life, the meusium and govindavita contains a great value to express itself a place to visit. Still can see some sign of well decorated ancient city.

Mohasthangarh means fort of great place .. It is located 23 KM away from Bogra City Centre connected by all weather metal road .Archaeological artifacts suggests that it was the cap[ital of Pundranagor established in 3rd century BC and remained functional till 18th century. There is a small museum . It has got terracitta coin s ,black stone statues of 8-12 centuries . It is closed on Saturday and all govt holidays . Usually functions from 9-5 Pm.The museum invites you through a walking path through a well maintained lawn and garden. There is a motel near museum from tourism department of Govt.Actual entry to garh (fort) is 500 yards short of museum. Ruind of walls are seen all around . The area is about 8 SQKM .Amoung other interesting points there are Jeot Kundo ( well of auspiscious water),Bairagir cala ( Cottage of female devotee) House of Porshuram (Historic personality),Shah Sultan Mazar and Khodar Pathor Vita (Place of God`s Stone). Unless one can manage a learned local it is very difficult to find the spots.

Anybody who is interested to see the birthplace of Bangladesh, I would encourage to visit the place. Although its mostly ruins here now but its fascinating to see and visualize the fact that once there was buildings and people now there is only ruins. There is a museum right across the road which I would recommend to visit. Museum has some nice artifacts. Overall highly recommended to visit.

Such an idyll away from the crowds, green and clean air. We like nature, so it was special to be somewhere you could see birds. Some reviews mention this being disappointing - perhaps if there were information boards around the ruins explaining what was found, probably hypothesising. We were fortunate to meet a european archeological team who told us about their work. Probably they were hoping to find treasures but over the years this area has been explored and re-covered which is a shame. The lead project manager, Coleen, is a charming French lady whom I think our tour guide was probably fond of. You know who you are!
Worth a visit and it supports the preservation of an important monument.
