Visit to Äscher mit zug von Appenzell Sehr Ruhrgebied und gut. We walked from campingsite to Appenzell and with train to Hemisau and there we walked to Äscher ( tough) through the forest ,wildkirche and top and back with cablecar. It was heavy but great.

Very pleasant narrow gauge railway linking the St. Gallen Bahnhof (Main train station) and Appenzell. Short walk to most shops, hotels and restaurants in the area.

This is what call the rural "Hop-on Hop-off" bus/train. We used it to see the local countryside, to visit St Gallen, or to access the numerous mountain trams and villages. It is a lovely way to travel and you don't have to watch the road.

Great little train for getting out and about into the countryside. Runs every 30 minutes, stops many times all along the way, but good connecting transportation and scenic views of Appenzeller land. We took it to Wasseraun to connect with cable car to Ebenalp. Also...More

Even in a town as small as Appenzell the train is central and functions well with trains arriving and departing every 30 minutes. We took the train to the Kronberg cable car then hiked all the way back to Appenzell through stunningly beautiful countryside. Our...More

This is just one branch of the very extensive Swiss rail networks. Don't get fooled thinking this is something special. It is a great way to get from place to place, and sure, it does have some great views from the window...but it is still...More

How long does the entire train ride take and is it a good thing to do for just one day? cost? We only have a full day in Appenzell, (March) what else should we do, besides the beer, which I love?

When staying for 3 nights in Appenzeller and getting the free train pass, do you get 2 passes if 2 travelers are staying (husband and wife), or does one pass cover both? Thanks

I think a pass for the two of you. We only stayed 2 nights so we used our Swiss Travel Pass. This is a very lId back, informal train. Never saw anyone checking passes.
