Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Be careful. Most of previous reviews are false. They are not talking about Schinias Beach but Marathonas Beach... few kilometers but huge difference
In Schinias there are no front sea restaurants anymore. Pictures posted are false or 5 years old. As a protected site there is no nautical club around. Marathonas Beach is a long serie of low quality resorts with all nautical facilities ... but it is NOT the sandy beach with the pines forest behind and clear blue water....

Schinias Beach is about one hour from down town Athens and very popular with Greek Families with children. We have visited the beach for the past thirty years and loved it so much we purchased a house nearby.
Schinias is perfect for a day in the sun with family and friends. Like most of Greece, its waters are crystal clear and inviting. A tall pine forest grows down to the sea providing shade from the summer sun. Small children love playing in the beach's fine sand. The beach has a gentle slope into the sea. Adults can wade several hundred meters into the sea before finding water over their heads. Small children and tottlers can safely wade out to sea as there are no currents or large waves.
Once past the sand beach, the coast line becomes mountainous with a rocky shore line. This part of Schinias is very popular with sun bathers who easily find secluded private spots for their pleasure. The deep waters here are perfect for diving off the rock and for snorkeling and observing the marine life.

I really dislike that beach... it's overcrowded, the sea is lousy and it takes a miracle to find an umbrella... There are much nicer beaches in Athens than this...

Sand, sand, sand!! Lovely and shallow (not deep) water far away from the beach, nice and relaxing when having small kids! We enjoyed a whole day here and is definitely going back at least once and maybe even more times before going back home, the beaches in Greece are often Stoney, this is the total opposite experience! The first 6-9 ft. Is (extremely) small rocks (feels like sand) but after the first 9 ft. It's all sand, it's the most wonderful feeling... The water is a bit salty, but it all is in the area!! 😉😀

Crystal clear water, sandy beach, organized with sun beds and umbrellas. Having been in Schinias plenty of times and having visited many different beach bars as well as fish restaurants, I strongly recommend the part of the beach where Glaros fish restaurant-beach bar is located. Lovely place, lovely service excellent food and free of charge sun beds after consumption. They always offer a cold homemade sangria and dessert to all of their customers. The beach in this location is by far better than the rest of Schinias having in mind that is a 10Km long beach. If you ever visit this place make a stop at Glaros.

One of nature's miracles , untouched . Fantastic opportunity to spend long holidays with crystal clear waters, family tavernas near by , fantastic sea view houses , boat tours , serenity , nature , sea, sun , organised sports clubs, archaeological interest near by , the Marathon run museum, the battle of Marathon that took place thousands of years before still presents its evidence . A fantastic holiday place for summer and winter !

Schinias beach is a long, sandy beach on the northern edges of Marathon Bay backed by a famous strip of pine forest. About 45kms from Athens, it is free to access,This is the perfect beach area for both families and couples. You can take your own chairs and picnic stuff and settle yourself under the shade of the pine trees.Or just take a towel and hire a lounger (4 euros) at one of the beach bars. The farthest end of the beach is very shallow and excellent for kids (the sea floor is sand). There are plenty of places renting out canoes, paddle boats, etc. For those wanting to learn sailing or windsurfing there are at least 2 or 3 water sport schools .Sailing Academy or Moraitis Beach Club are both excellent - Moraitis has a hot shower as well as several cold showers. Tip: Moraitis gives a parking coupon when you arrive but if you take a 4 eruo chair or a 3 euro frappe or rent a surfer or whatever then get your coupon stamped and then you don't pay the parking. Schinias has everything (incl beach tavernas) and the blue flag waters are just perfect. If you are coming from Athens with a car then its best to take the scenic route over Lake Marathon (largest marble dam in the world). This road is less stressful than going over Nea Makri since there are very few lorries (there's a tonnage limit on the dam road) and its beautiful scenery. There are buses from athens centre (Pedio of Areos) to Schinias at least 5 times/day in summer. They stop at th Ampelokipi and Pallini metro stations on their way out to Marathonas.

For Attiki this is a great beach but dont compare it to better beaches on Greek Islands which is a whole different level. I wouldnt recommend going here during the summer at a weekend as parking and finding space is impossible. During weekdays or in SPring/Autumn it is paradise. Behind the beach there are woodlands which are beautiful, as well as a few bars/taverns dotted along the coast (depending which route/road you took). At the end of the beach they have removed the original old tavernas. Be careful with parking and belongings as I know of several people who have had things stolen/cars broken into. Avoid the expensive beach clubs/bars between Schinias and Marathon which are pretentious/busy and overpriced. The water itself is clean most of the year, very shallow though at the end which is ideal for Children.

Given how close to Athens this beach is it is very good. The sea is much clearer when the wind is blowing away from the shore. A good restaurant the Delfini (tripadvisor rejected my request to add it to their list no idea why!). Got an umbrella and sun loungers and get a voucher to spend. In the bar!
