The Grotto
About
The Grotto, in Bruce Peninsula National Park, is one of the top tourism attractions in Ontario. A shoreline sea cave with the beautiful blue waters, the Grotto is a unique natural wonder and memorable place to experience. It is also a very popular and busy location, especially during the peak season of July and August and on long weekends. At those times, the parking lot will fill up and you may not be able to access the Grotto.

    The Grotto
A lot has changed since we were here in 2015. A reservation is now required to visit, its no longer get here early or be hung out to dry! Beautiful spot. The bugs were really after my wife and I and some others, so come prepared for that possibility. Bring in your own drinks and snacks as i didn’t see any for sale. The terrain is rough and slippery, choose footwear accordingly. We were there for about 3 hours, so a four hour parking pass seemed to be satisfactory.

    Another day in the water.
This was an easy almost all flat hike untill you get to the waters edge. It was a nice scramble down the rocks to get into the grotto. Well worth it. The water was swimable and crystal clear. It was a little strange to have to reserve a time slot A day or more ahead of time. But I guess it can get crowded.

Worth the effort… spot not to miss
Located with in Cypress Lake National Park outside Tobermory, it’s definitely worth the effort to get there. You will need a reservation and pay to park but well worth it. The park setting and trek out to the The Grotto site itself is breathtaking but only once you are at The Grotto itself you can truly appreciate the scenery and experience. Cut out of stone the natural beauty abounds and the initial sense of sudden cold temperatures from the water subside quickly. We made it to the site with a 16 month and stroller easily in the beautifully maintained park. Took some snacks, lunch and drinks for a picnic on the rock top after swimming in one of Georgian Bay’s most beautiful spots. If you travel that way don’t miss the opportunity to visit. Take note reservations are a must and it’s a very popular destination so plan ahead or you will be disappointed.

Jostling with crowds, July and August are the busiest months
If you want to really enjoy the views and pristine shores the ideal time to plan your trip would be June or mid-Sept. We last visited the Grotto early in August and it was almost too crowded to enjoy. Even May or October would be nicer. Almost all parking for national and provincial park sites must be reserved ahead of time, so plan your day accordingly.

    Beautiful spot to tour
What a great spot. Bring bathing suit and a towel. Lots of people a d we went on a Monday. Be sure to pre book your parking reservations ahead of time as you won't be able to drive in without a spot. Amazing clear water and the caves are so cool.

    Beautfiul Hike
We hiked the Grotto in Sept 2023. You have to reserve your parking online in advance. You can't get anywhere near the trail head without a reservation. No drop offs, etc. Even though it was mid September, the Grotto was very busy. The hike itself isn't too strenuous. I do recommend proper hiking boots as portions of the hike are across rocky beaches, but otherwise the hike isn't too bad. The rock formations, the turquoise waters and the views are all definitely worth the hike. I would suggest bringing a lunch including water and enjoy your time there. I think our parking reservation was for 4 hours and this was plenty of time. We're not the fastest hikers either. Overall, a very enjoyable hike.

One of the pristine places I’ve visited… beautiful and divine
It’s a beautiful place, nature in all its splendour, stepping on the cool crystal clear water is a must have experience. My legs were tired after the trek but a dip for a few minutes in the water got me refreshed completely, it was simply out of the world. Recommend that you carry swimwear for a cool refreshing dip which you will definitely cherish until you are back again

    Beautiful views
This place is beautiful, a must see! However it was a friday afternoon in June when we went and it was pretty busy. We booked our parking in advance (we were able to get in them the day before- in the "off summer months"). We went with younger children and someone with disabilities and the easy route was definitely do able however the grotto was much more difficult for them but managed with some help. They had lots of clean washrooms before and through the hike.

The Grotto and and the bay around it is absolutely perfect for everyone to see. Whether you want a light hike, see a breathtaking view, or to take a dip in the water it's all here. You can access the inside of the grotto by swimming around it from the outside.

Went here with family and so glad we had the chance to experience the grotto and trails there was different levels of trail that would fit all people, it was nice to go for a swim water is a bit cold but all part of the experience, parking has to be reserved which was easy to do, facilities and bathrooms were well maintained and clean, this is definitely a must see destination
