- OzTontoMelbourne, Australia297 contributionsOverwhelming and incredibleAfter hearing so much of the history of this location and what happened in 1915, it was an extremely overwhelming and emotional experience but also incredible to visit and reflect. Bless the souls of those who sacrificed their lives. I now understand why Australians flock here on Anzac Day to attend services honouring the lost souls.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 1 April 2024

My grandfather came here to fight for his family and returned a broken man. It is however refreshing to hear how the Turkish people admire the Australian soldiers.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 May 2024

Staying at canakkale town, a ferry trip and private group bus stopping at all places of interest. An emotional moment, red poppies growing wild along the roadside making it surreal and remains of the trenches still evident. - Damien SAdelaide, Australia7,186 contributionsA must visit place as an Australian! After all these years I finally made it there. 5 hours drive from Istanbul, beautiful weather and an amazing tour company, makes all the difference. It is a clean area, off the bus looked around, took on all of the history. Recent fires meant that it looked more like it did in 1915. This is a must must visit place as an Australian! You will not be disappointed.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 September 2024
- Caroline G5 contributionsOur guide ErcanWe went on a private tour with Ercan as our guide. We can’t say enough positive things about his knowledge and in-depth understanding of history. He also accompanied us the following day to Troy and Pergamum. His involvement with archaeology gave greater insight to many of the historical sites. He is very personable with a great sense of humor, and it felt as if we were with a friend.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 September 2024

What a stunning area with such an awful history - I was quite literally moved to tears at the Anzac cemetery round the corner in the bay where they landed. The authorities have done such a beautiful job at maintaining this whole area and you cannot fail to be caught up in emotion. It's so good that picnics and fun things are not allowed - it's not here to be fun after all.

Quiet, peacefull place, next to sea, where they have landed and died. Usad as ceremonials every year at dawn by Anzacs. Sad, respectfull, clean, well maintained. They were not foes but brave friends to be killed to save our country.

We visited the Anzak bay again with a visit. The blue and sea are amazing. The only negative was that there was a forest fire on the 2nd sea and the gendarmer had to evacuate the darkness. Please remember to collect your waste where you go. Be careful not to leave waste, such as garbage, garbage, picnics, etc., that could cause forest fires. It’s not hard for the majority of people to come there in their own private car, filling a bag of waste, putting it in the car and dumping it in the trash container! You're destroying forests with your crab!

October 2021. Respect. How such death, misery, and tragedy could happen at such a beautiful place. This visit bookended a historical perspective as we had visited Port Albany, Australia in 2019, the embarkation point for Anzac troops destined for Gallipoli landing. Very moving visit to the Cove and other battle field areas and cemeteries. Please show respect while visiting.

This is a lovely place to visit. What I absolutely have to say, though, is that if you are not part of an organised tour that you have to be aware that there are no places to buy water and there is no public transport. We nearly got caught out during this summer's sun and hitched a lift out of there. Otherwise it might have been a different situation.

Can we take and fly nz and Australian flags at anzac cove. What is the protocol?
Written 28 June 2018
When I attended the dawn service there last year I'm fairly sure large flags were not allowed. If you are visiting at a time other than Anzac Day I'm sure the situation is different. Best to contact DVA or the CWGC to see what the current recommendations are. Things are always changing

My mother would like to know if pets are allowed on the ANZAC grounds, as she will need to bring her dog with her.
Written 23 March 2015
No, only assistance dogs are permitted. This is all in the support materials from the Office in NZ.

Anzac Day 2015 is a restricted service. For those that have tickets for the commemoration, what is the best way to get from Canakkale to Anzac Cove for the Dawn Service?
Written 19 February 2015
Bus as part of a tour package. If you do not have this is place, I would suggest you start early, walk onto the intercontinental ferry then treck to the Gaba Tepe controlled entry point. And may your chooks turn into emus and kick your dunny door down for getting entry tickets I did not.
