I found it to be a difficult hike, it took 7 hours to get to the Halfway House. The initial climb, and the 28 bends are the hardest part. There are little vendors to buy snacks and water from up until the 28 bends then nothing for several hours ! Be prepared

Definitely one of the highlights of my trip in Yunnan. If you have trekking experience, this is a pretty easy day hike although I would still split it into two days just so you can enjoy the scenery more. I would also dedicate some time (afternoon or day) to exploring the lower gorge once you've hiked the upper gorge. In... More

I started from Shangri-la. The first bus left at 7.30 am and arrived at 9.20 in Qiaotou. It dropped me at the ticket office. Then continue on the road, past the school until you reach a small restaurant with information. You can get a map and water here. Then you turn up the hill on a paved road. After a... More

Really enjoyed this nature. Not the easiest walk if you do the whole walk, even for us who train on a regular basis, the 28 bends is killer! But the scenery is great. There are parts it feels like you are walk climbing as the path is so narrow. I recommend skipping the top of the gorge and start at... More

We descended the mountain in the morning having stayed at Tea Horse Guest House the night before - we arrived at Tina's around noon for lunch (which was not bad btw) then we set off down into the gorge ....its steep climb down that takes approx 45 mins to an hour You have to pay at several points along the... Just a gorge with a rock in the middle of it... seemed to me overrated as everybody talked about it...

My wife and I visited the Tiger Leaping Gorge in Lijiang at the end of October. We hired a taxi for Rmb450 for the whole day (basically from 9am-6pm), and left Lijiang at about 9:30. The road conditions changed considerably along the way. We started with a 2x3-lane highway in Lijiang, and turned to a two-lane well-maintained paved road half... More

During high season, it can get really crowded and the walkways are like sardine cans. Some magnificent vistas with flora and rock formations to take the breath away.

We did both the 2 days trek as well as the visit center by the tiger leaping rock. The trek offers wonderful views on the river and the mountains.no need to be over equipped. Bottom end of the gorge is more crowded. Still it remains spectacular.
