Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We enjoyed several hours walking around this beautiful mountainside village. The castle has a amazing little chapel and an interesting small museum, and the views are nice. You have to try the Le Manna - which is absolutely delicious.

Worth a visit. Interesting. Was very hot in August so stay in the shade! Beautiful building and outstanding views over the surrounding countryside

Be sure to visit the home of the Ventimiglia family in Castelbuono. The castle contains a wonderful chapel, interesting modern art and archaeological information. We particularly enjoyed our beautiful guide.

A wonderful little medieval town in the Madione Mountains. We enjoyed walking through the narrow streets, sampling some of the local cuisine and visiting the castle/art gallery/museum and chapel.

This took 40 minutes drive from Cefalù, along a scenic route, but if you are driving you will not get the chance to appreciate due to the narrow roads.
The centre of the town is a big square where you will find Pasticceria Fiasconaro, where you can sample lots of different panetonne & nougat & of course you will need to buy some to take home. I bought one with pistachios for 13 euro.
Be sure to walk up the small side streets you will find ceramic shops & gift shops, there is also the castle! we didn’t go in but views are lovely, well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Very interesting house, which is a combination of a castle, chapel, art gallery and museum. It shows the importance and wealth that the Ventimiglia family had. We got first a quick guided tour just for the two of us and then continued exploring on our own. The chapel is extraordinary with beautiful stucco decorations. Also, the galleries very well restaured containing a maze of different rooms.

Must place to visit.

Great little mountain town about a 45 minute winding road up from Cefalu. Park or you will miss the town square which is off limits to traffic. Great pastry shop. Continue on past Petralia Soprano and you will have a 90 minute hairpin curve drive up and down the mountains back to Cefalu.

We spent some hours in the morning in Castelbuono driving up from Cefalu which takes about 30 minutes. The way is easy to find. We were in the end of high season and it was very easy to find a parking space right by the castle. Like many others also have described it is not really a castle but a big building. The " castle" is well maintained- entrance i 4 Euros and there was an interesting display with a mix of modern art and sacred art. The chapel in the top floor is really special and from here there is a great view over the town and the mountains. We had very good coffee and croissants (Cin Cin cafe) on the very charming town square - everything seems very authentic here. We tried to find the museum of natural history but it seems that this has moved? Our italian is not good enough to clearly understand where the museum is relocated. Careful- we tried to drive out a very narrow road from the parking place - dont be tempted to drive the narrowest of roads in the town - they are extremely narrow and in some places only the tiniest of Fiats will be able to pass :)

Beautiful castle and great view from Castelbuono! Entrance 4 euros. Program our visit because the castle closes to siesta (from 13:30 to 15:00). This location was from the movie "cinema paradise". Loved it!
