I got a group of friends together for the Tolworth Hurdle Day event on 4th January as a New Year get together and to check the course out with a view to returning in the summer. Although we had to brave the cold we loved the day, the course had great atmosphere although it is not as high end as others. The entrance is very reasonable and you can bring your own food and drinks (max half a bottle of sparkling wine or wine or 4 cans of beer or cider per person, no spirits or fortified wine) as long as you have it in the picnic area. Really busy car park and we only arrived at 1 p.m. (doors opened at 10:30 a.m. for a first race at 12:15)…

The layout at Sandown is excellent, making it easy to view the horses in the parade ring then walk through the stand and have a wonderful view of the course and the unfolding drama as the horses jump over the fences or hurdles. A lot was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.…
