Yes this wonderful Edgar Allen Poe simple church building on a barren hill overlooking the fog, I mean ocean, in Hellnar, Iceland is not to be missed...it is not fancy trappings that matter.

We stayed at the Fosshotel for five nights. Spent about 30 minutes exploring the church and grounds on one of our quiet days.

Nice place to visit, however more impressive is the coastal area with the beautiful arc in Arnarstapi. Advice: Take the hiking route between Hellnar and Armarstapi!

Saw it in passing and had to go back and photograph it. Amazing little building. Its worth the stop just to take a photo

I didn’t go in but it does make for a lovely photo and it is worth a look after a walk and on the way to the cafe!

I am fascinated by the old churches in Iceland, and this one was no exception. While the inside wasn't accessible, this church is neat to see while in the Hellnar area. It makes for some great photo opportunities as well. Check out the cafe next...More
