Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Iceland has many such Churches, standing isolated and very picturesque. Mostly, they're just like this one - white with red roof.
However, I must admit this one in Hellnar looks worse than most others. It seems neglected with some rust on its metal construction, as well faded roof. It was closed so we couldn't enter.

Beautiful little village.... magnificent view. The little church is a wonderful place in the evening to watch over the water and sence the beauty and peace of Iceland. Every day on this Island feels like one spent in paradise.

This cozy, coastal church, built in 1945, was built on the site of an older church dating back to 1833. The church itself is made for a small rural community that gathers together despite the sparse, wide-spread distribution. The church holds 40 people at so at the most, and the cemetery next to the church gives a sense of the history of these people who live on what seems to be the edge of the world. Surrounded by spectacular views of the mountains to the east and the sea to the south and west, Hellnar church is the site of a rumoured siting of the spirit of the Virgin Mary, near a coldwater spring nearby. Located within easy walking distance of the Primus restaurant and several lookout points on the ocean, the church is in some ways very typical of the country churches that dot the Icelandic landscape, and unique with its regional history.

This beautiful, simple church is a place of perfect peace for quiet contemplation on a very windy coastline. It was a short walk from our cottage and we visited a couple of times. It is currently having some refurbishment work done internally. The current church has been in situ for 30+ years, the last one having been lifted off its foundations by the wind! Worth a couple of minutes of anyone’s time

As I gazed upon this church in complete solitude, I contemplated the life of the early settlers to this region. In fact, there is a story of one of them posted in front of the church. It's a serene setting, a place to quiet your soul. The church itself was not open.

We saw the church up on the hill and couldn't wait to explore. We just saw from the outside - don't know if you can get in. The grounds and cemetery were fun to explore and the view was nice. There is a parking lot at the top of the hill right beside the church.

Doesn't seem to get more Iceland than this view of a church by the sea. Worth a visit. The adjacent cemetery was interesting to walk through. Beautiful area.

I had a walk around - it’s a very pretty church but appears to be sadly neglected, locked and boarded up. Very picturesque setting. There’s an information board and free parking.

Nice little church. It stands a bit away from the main road so we did not go there, just took a few pictures. As all churches in small Icelandic towns it looks very cute with a mountain in the background.

In a country dotted with White Churches sporting red roofs, this one is par for the course. Nothing special, but I took a nice photo.
