I discovered Hormuz island as the unique part of Persian Gulf; it is unique for its kind and hospitable people, red soil, beautiful beaches, and amazing mountains.
It is recommended to visit this magic island from November to March, since in other months it will be really hot and humid.
Also, Highly recommended for nature lovers.

It is one of the best islands in south of Iran. You can relax and enjoy your time. It’s better to go there in November to May. The people are very kind in south of Iran. You can experience eating fish, shrimp and shark. Better to get food from local people and stay in local houses.

Hormuz is easily reached by ferry from Qehsm or Bandar Abbas. Once you arrive there will be a lot of friendly tuc-tuc-drivers offering to take you around to all the sights on the island. I can recommend Ahmad Hormozi who speaks some english (better live than on the phone) his number is 009809383168554. The road around the island is 27 km long, and there are lots of natural phenomena to stop and see on the way. The tour will take about 4 hours. The island is full of minerals and therefore the soil has many fantastic colors. On the island lives a local artist who has a gallery. He has tout some of the local women to make art, and they sell their things on the sights around the island. There are two cafes. One immediately when you come to the island from the ferry and one down the main road "Café Gelak". a very nice place maid from recycled things. The food is very good. In the evening there is sometimes live music. Camping in the mountains can be arranged for you as well as a homestay with Ahmad or hotelstay at Sahele Sorkh 009809121575713. In the season you can see the see turtles. The atmosphere is friendly and wellcomming.

This last summer I visited Hormoz Island and it was an incredible experience. I have never seen a more magical place! In this review, I will present some tips and a recommendation for room rental in case you want to spend a few days without having to leave back and forward the island.

We already had prepaid accommodation on Qeshm island so one day we just decided to take the boat early in the morning and visit Hormoz Island for one day. We had done some research, but not much practical information is available online.

First of all, it is advised and very typical that tourists visit this island in the autumn/winter/spring time when the temperatures are bearable.

Access: you can get to Hormoz island only by boat from Qeshm island or from Bandar Abbas as I know.

Transportation on the island: as soon as the boat arrives and you get on land, the only transportation we could see is with locals (their personal car or motorcycle). When you choose one of the locals, it automatically implies that they will also be your island tour guide. More on this in the following point.

Food and getting around the island: As I mentioned above, the only way to get around the island is with a local. After they pick you up at the port, they will take you to their home, offer you food and a place to rest, and after that, they will take you around the island. Hormoz is a pretty small island, so you can see pretty much all the essential places in 4-5 hours including stops for pictures. However, after discussing with our host, we found out that many tourists prefer staying on the island for a few days, so they can properly enjoy their time and explore everywhere.

Accommodation: The problem with staying on the island for a few days is that there aren't any hotels, b&bs advertised anywhere. As a tourist traveling there without an Iranian person that knows how things work there, it will be very difficult to find a place and communicate to locals since most of them can't speak English.

This is why I will recommend our lovely host's place. His name is Morteza, and together with his family is working year around with welcoming and hosting tourists from all around the world. He is a very humble and honest man, and together with his wife they cooked us extremely delicious food and showed us great hospitality.

As I mentioned, we already had a place to stay that we paid for in Qeshm, but showed us the room that they rent out to tourists. I will attach pictures of the room. Their house has a yard in the middle that connects their part of the house, toilets, an outdoor lounge area and a separate building where the room for guests is. I have to say that it is a very simple, traditional and not fancy, but very clean room. They are simple people that will welcome you with an open heart, so be realistic and enjoy the simplicity without expecting hotel conditions.

Mr. Morteza will charge you depending on how long you stay, how many tours of the island you wish, food etc. His prices were very fair and he is also open for negotiation.

Important information:

***Mr. Morteza cannot speak English, so I advise you to ask an Iranian friend to call and make the reservation for you. If you don't know anybody who can help you make the reservation, write me and I will help you.

By the way, I am purely doing this to help him and his family out. They won my heart with their kindness, and it also made me sad to see how much they struggle to earn a living by doing this hard work. I promised them that I will advertise their services somewhere where tourists can see it and be able to plan their stay ahead. I do not earn/get anything out of this, and I especially encourage you to only and directly pay money to Mr. Morteza.

Payment: all payment for your stay you will make it personally in cash directly to Mr. Morteza.

Name: Morteza Zarneghari

Hormuz is an island located in Persian Gulf nearly 20 km SW of Bandar Abbas. It is most famous for its colorful soil and hence the nickname is colorful island. probably you'll be amazed by facing handicrafts made of only soil!

You can use public transportation to there, tickets to and from Hormuz costs 70,000 IRR (as of FEB 2018). You can use local tricycle motors touring around the island (200,000 IRR for hour) seving to visitors specially on weekends and holidays.

There are many attractions: salt mine, salt cave, colorful valley, statues valley, remains of medival portugese castle.Covering these attractions will need at least half a day. moreover you can get a ride on boats to explore some amazing beach scenrey. Don't forget to try local seafood! you can decide to leave the island at evening or rent a room and stay overnight or even better to camp at beautiful coasts!

Best months to visit: NOV,DEC,JAN,FEB, MAR.
(otherwise it can be uncomfortably very hot)

Hormuz is magnificent I don't wanna deny the fact that I love it but recently, due to the mismanagement and over-tourism, it has got really dirty and full of trash in the island.

I hope they figure a solution for it.

If you are looking for a new and refreshing experience in your travel to Bandar abas or Qeshm island, dont hesitate to visit Hormoz.
The island has fantastic views of persian gulf and unique texture of soil and mountains. There is a road aroud the island which can give you an almost 360 degree view of the island. There are different places you can visit; but the most fabulous ones are silver beach where the sands are shining and the sea is red (due to red soil in the area) and a valey and unique mountain which gives you a very good view of strait of hormoz.
Mostly people rent a motorbike or car with a driver who take them round the island; but we rent a bike and ride round the island. It was a very thrilling experience; although in the middle of the way one of the bikes got a problem; after 2 hours waiting for the backup team and although it was not our fault they charged us a huge amount of money which I beleive was unfair.
Other possible activities includes swimming, hiking or camping in the island.

This island is for sure one of the high lights of our trip. We truly enjoyed the colourful surroundings and the salt caves you can visit. The whole trip around takes about 4 hours and its fun using the local tuktuks. Our driver didnt speak English but no problem at all. You can see the rainbow village, the steep cliff, nice beaches and many more things.
